Subject: water base polish
Message: Since I was the culprit that first posted about this I am also anxious to see how the new formula holds up. I had bought this over two years ago, but at that time they were just getting ready to come out with their new formula. Mine is the one that you can just peel off. I think I also posted that a week or so ago, while going through some of my stuff I came across four bottles of the polish that I had ordered over two years ago and to my amazement they were still as usable as when I got them - they had not thickened up or anything. As Barb said, that speaks volumes on this product. Lynnie, I think you are the first to give the review on the new formula and I noticed you stated that it was more of a matte polish. This is true. It does still have a bit of a shine, but not that glassy shine like regular nail polish. I am trying an experiment (on one nail) using my peelable polish in the Tuscany (pretty color). If you read on the web site I think she states that if you are wearing a dark color to put a clear coat on first. I have on a clear coat, two thin coats of the Tuscany and then, just to see how this will work, I put a coat of regular clear nail polish over the top. My thinking is that if you have the three layers of polish against the nail they should be pretty well protected so the regular clear coat maybe will not rob the moisture from the nail. By doing this you get that more glassy shine of the regular polish. I really do like this stuff and who knows, it may convert me over to a nail polish user. I am going to leave it on the one nail and see how it holds up. What is your opinion Barb? Do you think by applying the clear coat of water base, two thin coats of water base color and then a clear coat of regular polish over all will work since you have the three under it to protect the nail from drying out. I just thought of this today and for some crazy reason it sounded like it might be okay to do this. I still can't believe this stuff stayed this fresh after over two years of just sitting in my box of stuff. The regular clear coat definitely gives it a real shine. You can find the clear coat polish without the toulene or formaldehye, which I think are the two things you definitely do not want on your nails.

Message: This morning I had emailed a question to Customer Service at Honeybee Gardens asking if they offer any kind of a natural polish that will provide a glossier finish. If I get a response, I'll post it. But I'm intrigued by your solution!

Message: Well, day 3 here. I was wearing the Tuscany too, June. This polish doesn't chip at all. It can get scrapes on the surface (if you are careless like me) and it gradually wears off from the tips. You can't peel or chip away at it. As for that duller finish, it makes sense when you consider that the pigment and mica are mixed with water instead of a shinier lacquer/enamel base. This polish is not sheer at all. I didn't object to the duller finish, as regular polish dulls like that after a couple days. I played around with touching up, which is not difficult and doesn't soften the under layer.
Sooooo, today I HAD to try removing it because I wanted to test that as well. I used rubbing alcohol on one hand and their remover on the other. You REALLY have to rub to get this off, but we are used to rubbing, right? Their remover seems to have some additives to make it a little gentler/oilier, but it is still in an alcohol base and alcohol DOES work basically as well. Best thing to do is soak a cotton pad with remover. Kleenex won't do it. But, the best part - underneath my nails were as shiny and moist as they were before! There is NO leftover pigment on or soaking into the top layer of the nails. My cuticles were a little dry from the alcohol, but nothing that my NGF couldn't handle.
I'll give myself a couple days bare and I think I'll try one coat of the light pink and one coat of the clear over it. I found that one coat of the color was coverage enough.
June - let me know how your technique works out! When you remove it, though, you will have to use acetone for your top coat, then alcohol or peeling for the Naturella. Still, though, the Naturella will protect your nails from the acetone because acetone isn't a solvent for it.

Message: This is indeed interesting. I have not heard from them yet so they are my first phone call in the morning.
Lynnie the fact that one coat will cover well is great from an economics stand point. I like saving money!

Message: June thanks for the heads up...I went and applied the clear coat to my Valentine and it does make it more shiny than if the polish is worn alone.
Oh Barbara I hope they call you because so far I really like this nail polish.
