Subject: Illnesses
Message: You know, I am never surprised to hear about a new illness or disease. It seems there's so much stuff out there.
A couple years ago I started having a weird pain on the right side of my face. It was like the skin was hypersensitive and it hurt to blink, talk, or anything. And to touch it would send me through the roof! The doctor thought perhaps Bells Palsy because of some other symptoms with it, but the more I reasearch it the more I think that's not it. It comes and goes, and when it comes I also go through something where I can't lift my arms. It's bizarre! Why are there so many things manifesting themselves now? What is causing this? Why were these things not known about just a couple hundred years ago, or were they and most people died too young to be affected, or heck, may they just thought you were possessed? I dunno, but I do know this...
I know many of you, and I know the pain and fatigue and illness you struggle with everyday. It's real, and it's way past time for the medical world to take these things seriously.
I can only hope with worldwide communications via the internet and TV, that these things will be put in the forefront and steps taken to help you all.
You're in my thoughts and prayers!!!

Message: Cheers from the Amen section. You really know how to convey the message.
So often we are ignored as just whining.
Especially when we reach this certain age where the changes effect our not just our bodies but our emotional well being. Now it has become the family joke, and I can laugh at it but when these change first "grabbed" me they were terrifying because my thoughts went to "Oh God I really am certifiable!"
Now when I get my senior flashes every body in the family just says, "Mum, go take your pills!" We all get a hearty laugh from it and MUM regains some sense of balance.
I hate growing old, but I must admit it beats the alternative!

Message: Moi, I am sorry to hear about your struggle with fatigue and illness. And Barb you are right…growing old is hard BUT it does beat the alternative. My biggest fear is Alzheimer’s.
Our son in law has Parkinson’s…he was diagnosed at 27 and he is now 35…he can still work but the tremors are getting worse. Very sad.
Hopefully a cure is found soon…

Message: There probably isn't a name for your new neuralgia yet! Sheesh, that is odd and I hate illnesses like that that your doctor can't SEE. I hope it resolves as fast and mysteriously as it came.
I wonder the same darned thing as you when I think back a couple generations. You didn't hear of AIDS, no depression, ADHD, mad cow disease, flesh eating strep, Fibro, Lupus, I could go on and on. You get the drift. I think we should be eating way more bacon fat and eggs, like my grandfather. lol

Message: Moi, did your doctor check the trigeminal nerve for trigeminal
neuralgia? Your symptoms sound much like it and I've heard it's
very, very painful. Here is a URL link.

I don't want to sound like now that I have Lyme, I think the
entire world does, because that's not true. But if you ever get
diagnosed as Bell's Palsy, that can be (not must be, but can be)
one of the first signs of Lyme. I have neurological Lyme and
never got Bell's Palsy although one cheek tingles from time to
time. I also developed weakness in my arms but they were not
related to the timing of the cheek tingling.
For the poster who mentioned Parkinson's, there have been
some recent studies using very high doses of CoEnzyme Q10
supplements (I believe at the 1200 mg. level versus a usual level
of 60 - 100 mg/day) that have helped some Parkinson's patients
reduce their symptoms. You can do a google search. You can
also check the Life Extension Research website at www.lef.org
because their magazine is where I first read about it (I think).
Yes, I agree with the idea that we should all go back to eating
full-fat cheese, milk, bacon, etc. Our ancestors did! One of my
grandmothers lived to 98 and she never had most of the awful
tests the doctors put us through these days!
Hugs and prayers to all,
Jill

Message: First, let me start by saying that my DH's grandfather ate 6 eggs and 1/2 pd of bacon every single day and lived to be 98.
Next, Jill - thanks for the link... I looked it up and it sounds exactly like what I have in regards to the area effected. It's high on the right cheekbone area and into that eye. It causes discomfort over to the ear as well. And their discription of what triggers the pain is right on. AND it comes and goes with nothing that I can see bringing it on. No, the doctor never looked into that specifically. They did a complete blood/urine panel and everything came back normal except, and I had another doctor tell me this a couple years ago as well, it looks like I don't have enough fat in my diet. Now, we all know that isn't true, but based on the blood tests, somethign about the way my blood handles the fat or whatever is way off. The result, as I get older, will be that the cell walls will break down. Sooooooo, I have NO idea what is going on in my body. I wish I had even a jumping off point to start doing something to get better but no one, doctors I've seen anyway, know anything. And the almighty insurance company has to approve everything so I fight with that. I think I will push for an appointment with an internist because from there, he can recommend other specialists. Then again, the insurance has to okay the referral to the internist. It's like a never ending cycle!
Thank you so much for taking the time to give me that information. Your posts are always soooo informative and I think I can speak for all of us when I say thank you!!!
And another thank you to ALL you ladies who share your knowledge soooo openly and freely! You're all such a blessing!
