Subject: What did you eat today?
Message: Well, I was definately raised in the south. Hubby and I got up this morning and put some pork ribs in the crock pot, smothered in BBQ sauce. Then, it was time to slow cook the black eyed peas, with the ham bone left over from Christmas dinner. Next we got the collard greens going, along with some rice and cornbread. My mom sliced up some tomatoes and a huge Vidalia, yes Vidalia, onion - and the eatin' was on. I am so full I can hardly move. If this is how the rest of 2006 is going to be, I am one lucky lady!!!

Message: Well, that is what I have been told all of my life, black eyed peas for luck and collard or turnip green for money. As many collard greens as I ate today - it's gonna be a good year if it's true.........lol

Message: This proves that I live in a bubble. I never knew people did or ate certain things on New Years for luck! I even lived in Texas for 8yrs and never heard any of this until yesterday! Now..you hit the lotto this week....I will be stocking up on the greens!

Message: Happy New Years !
I started eating certain "Lucky" foods on New Years about two years ago, and it has made a big difference in my available funds !
I've always heard about cooked cabbage for money, but that tastes horrible to me, so I figured the best thing I could think of with cooked cabbage is egg rolls..so I have one..LOL
I have also read that the Dutch start the New Year with something circular, like a cycle. So, it's a doughnut for breakfast.
Now that I'm in the South, I fix my version of the Black-eyed Peas with Yellow corn and rice.
I hope you get your kicks in ' 06 !

Message: Not much here. I slept away most of the day, drank lot's of sprite and tea. My family had a good old time snacking on junk food and playing games all day. LOL

Message: Happy belated New Year's! Wow, next year it's black-eyed peas for good luck. Are garbanzo beans close enough? I threw some of them in my salad yesterday. Yesterday I made a small beef tenderloin that I'd marinated in a wine marinade. I hadn't intended on making a big meal, but was shopping and stumbled upon a 3 pound roast. As for tonight, it's every man for himself here. Enough of this holiday cooking!

Message: Black eye peas for "health", greens for "wealth", and throw in corn bread to feed the brain, for "wise".
Love those traditions!

Message: Well Lynnie, now I have to ask. Since you're a cornbread girl, do you eat grits too?
