Subject: Acetaminophin
Message: I just heard a report on the news that a new study shows the number one cause of liver failure is acetaminophin (poisoning). It's found in many products, Tylenol being the most recognized. The report also said that taking Tylenol and using a cold medicine which also can contain aceta. can cause higher than recommended levels in your system. AND the study showed that alcohol increases the effectivness of aceta, thus making it harder on the liver also.
Sheesh, be careful out there!

Message: I am thankfully able to take just good ol' fashioned aspirin, so I do! No Tylenol, no Excedrin, though I used their PM on more than one occasion. I hate menopause. Insomnia is a grade a to deal with. A friend of mine took Tylenol with NyQuill(sp?) and it really messed her up. You really have to use things independent of other things...You know a little common sense goes a long way too!

Message: Tylenol is perfectly safe taken in small doses. We had a kid who decided to commit suicide and took a bottle of 100 tabs, then got embarrassed about it and would not admit that was what he did. There is an antidote that can be given within a certain time frame. He admitted it later, but at this point he was already in liver failure. They started working him up for liver transplant, but then miraculously, his liver started to work again. One very lucky (and stupid) kid.

Message: This one really troubles me because I'm allergic to both aspirin and acetaminophen. It started when I was about 40 and now I get hives and a little wheeziness. And I take plenty of tylenol when I have headaches, as I get migraines. Oh well, just about everything has risks, but I'm going to run this by my internist to see what a safe dose is.
