both beautiful rings! i love looking at 'em! i own a few ephiphany rings and necklaces and i love them. i'm a white gold or platinum nut. haven't always been. my engagement ring and band are both yellow gold, and i wouldn't change them for anything in the world. i just make up for it on my other hand. i picked my diamond out 17 years ago and got exactly what i wanted to look at for the rest of my life, color, cut and size! it was too important to not have a say so!! i got a beautiful light blue sapphire and diamond ring for christmas last year on john's last international trip to india. gorgeous ring, so much cheaper over there! hoping he goes back and we can work on a matching necklace and bracelet! yes, i am spoiled. i have a feeling though, this year is going to be A LOT leaner with Delta though! i keep thanking god he still is working, but the 49% paycut we've taken over the last year and a half has been a hard pill to swallow. i just don't see an end to it.

Cheryl,
That's atrocious! How can an airline be losing so much money? Is there too much competition? I don't fly so I don't know how it works.

high gas prices, retirement payouts for the people able to retire and trying to compete with the "start-ups", jet blue, air tran airline types. they have young employess, no benefits, no pension and mostly fly the same kind of plane. delta can't compete against that. they pay their "valued" employees, have insured us relatively well until now, and have funded their retirements. it's all coming down to the lowest common denominator. john's retirement is pretty much gone. 17 years of contributing and now nothing for when he retires at 60. de-regulation of the airlines back in the early 80's wasn't the best thing to ever happen to the industry. it's very sad to see it happen. it has always been such a proud airline and industry to be associated with. just know when you hear about something "contract related" in the news, that there are always two sides to the story. john still has a job, we still have health insurance, we have no credit debt and i'm not raising kids and trying to put them through college, and life is still good and healthy AND i have nails!!

I can't imagine a 49% cut in pay. A few years ago all health care workers took a 5% pay cut and we were all horrified by that. Mind you, we now live in the only Canadian province with no debt because of all of the cuts. And because we have an oil based economy we are all getting a $4oo bonus from the extra monies poured into the coffers because of the oil prices. Hopefully Delta can turn it around the way Alberta did.

Hey Moi if you see this I am the same way with my earrings. It is so weird I can only wear 14k gold and if I wear anything else my ears get infected and bleed or try to close up.My hubby thought I was just saying that and he got me some sterling silver and I got a terrible infection..so now he believes me.
It is weird because I can wear any type of jewelry on the rest of my body...just not the ears.

Strange how we act differently to different substances, be it medication, makeup or jewlery. I can only wear sterling silver. Any other metal will make my skin look like I have been branded. My wedding rings are in our safe deposit box. No reason to keep them here since I can't wear them. I never had this problem until I had my ears pierced. Back then they just did it with the cork behind the ear and the needle. So, now it is just sterling silver everything. That is okay though. I like my sterling silver.

Hi ladies!!!! Cheryl, I'm really sorry about the situation with Delta, and your husband's job. Who could have ever conceived of the idea of an airline cutting wages and benefits 49%. At 45, my husband had to start his job career over again, and it was very hard, and luckily he went to work for the State University here, and has been there for 18 years, Thank God. One of our very good friends, who lived in GA, was the Chief Mechanic for Delta, many, many, many years ago, and he was one of the first JET mechanics. His name was REX MILLER, and he was such a nice man, and his wife, Dottie, was a secretary at Ft. MacPherson, and she called him "Pappy."

Moi, as far as the earrings in white gold and silver go, they add nickle to give the gold the white color. It's the nickle that causes the allergic reactions, and infections. White gold is still 14 or 18 karat, but the added nickle is what makes it white. It isn't unusual, and many people do suffer with this allergy. I can't wear the steel posts, and I can wear white gold and silver, but not the "mystery metals" because they cause me to have a reaction and an infection.

I hope this helps.

Speaking of rings, a plain jade ring came into my possession well over 30 years ago. I wore it in to my jewelry store one day, and the owner asked me where I had obtained the ring, and I told him the story, and he said it was one of the finest pieces of Imperial Jade (a very pretty shade of apple green) he had ever seen, and he had purchased collections of it in the orient. So I went to the diamond center in New York City (I had disposable income then), and had it reset in a setting with 20 3-point diamonds around it, in white gold. It is one of my favorite pieces of jewelry, and I always get compliments. The jade stone is oval, so this ring has a beautiful presentation. However, I have been collecting jewelry since I was 10, and I first asked my father for a diamond ring for my birthday - I knew what I wanted then too. He bought me a child's diamond ring, I still have it, and I wear it as a charm on a charm bracelet. So I have been collecting jewelry for 47 years, and this is the first year my husband didn't give me jewelry for Christmas or my b'day. I gave me some, but he didn't!
