Subject: Just stopped to say Hi

Message:
Hi everyone. I am so sorry I have been so lax in visiting this forum. I have posted on the other side a few times, but the puppy has had me busy. My husband loves the puppy, but is very quick to put him in his crate when he wants him to be out of his way. I let him stay with me, so he is out and learns to tell me when he has to go out, and for me to pet him and interact with him I really am enjoying Remy, and he is just a delight to me. I am amazed everyday at how smart he is. He does things that remind me of myself. He is trying to get up on the couch, which I don't mind, I have blankets on the couch. However, he can get his little "fanny" up and he reminds me of trying to get on a raft in the pool during the summer, and gravity won't let my "fanny" get up on the raft either!!! LOL He's just like his "Mom"!!!

I really and truly have missed you all, and I feel I have neglected you. I have heard about all of the "trouble" on the other side, but I don't understand it and haven't been keeping up with it. I am sometimes up late, but tonight, I am falling asleep tonight as I am writing this.

I will be back on a more regular basis now, and I will keep in touch. Even though I haven't posted, you haven't been far from my thoughts. I have really wanted to make sure my furbaby is housebroken, and I have been spending a lot of time focusing on this training. It's working and he hasn't had a mishap in nearly 2 weeks, which is really good for a little puppy. I'm really proud of him.

Love to all of you, and I do miss you. I'm off to bed now, and Remy is off to his crate. He often goes in there by himself, but he is lying by my seat on the couch, sleeping. Gosh, I love this puppy!!!! This is what real, total and unconditional love is all about, this little black, curly ball of fur. I am so happy!!

Good night my friends!

Hi Karen!!! Thank you for saying hi. I've been wondering how you're doing with your new angel! How big will he get?

See all the excitement you miss? Without you here to keep a watchful eye, all hades breaks loose!

Miss you my friend!

karen1225,
your're doing all the right things in raising this puppy. you're spending time with him, being consistent, making a big deal out of the good stuff, being firm with the bad stuff. you will have a dog not only you, but everyone else, will love being around too. you get out what you put into them. the crate saved my sanity with my black lab in her first few weeks!!

Moi and cheryl, I have missed you two and the others so much, but I want to spend as much time with my "baby" as I can. He is very well behaved, and yes, he is still a puppy, but when we take him out, he is calm, and sits (we've taken him places and keep him on his training/show leash, but he sits near our feet and doesn't whine, bark or cry. He knows sit, down, come, and is pretty good about the "come" command, except when he wants to play with us. He is a cuddler and Moi, he will be somewhere between 65 - 75 pounds full grown.

He is so cute, he prances when he walks. I didn't want to do the crate, but the breeder had him in a crate, so we got one and I'm not sorry. he will put himself to bed at night in his crate, and my husband left for work this morning without closing the crate door. Remy stayed in his crate for a while, and then he woke me up with puppy kisses, and his big giant thundering paws!

I will be checking in, and Moi, be on the lookout for something from me in your mail this week. I have missed you and I feel I have been so neglectful of you ladies, but cheryl, you are so right. I want a dog that people will want to be around and enjoy as much as we enjoy him. I have been working very hard with him, and the breeder and her daughter did so much with him before we got him, so we were a step ahead.

Thanks for missing me!

Hi Karen! After raising 2 pups a couple years ago, I know how busy you are. But it is so worth the time and attention you are giving Remy now. Sounds like you are doing a great job of socializing him.

I want to encourage you on the crate training because dogs really do view that differently. We might think of it as locking them up. They think of it as their safe den in your home. Dogs are decendents of wolves, who are "den animals". When you can't be "potty training" it's wise to put them in there. Or, if they break training, it's the the best way to get them back in line. I STILL use the crate at night 2 years later and I'm not hearing any complaints. In fact, I think it is a kindness to keep them accustomed to it, for if you ever have to board them, have them groomed, or they must spend time in a crate at the vet's office, they don't freak out. To the contrary, they like the familiarity and safety in a strange place. It is also convenient to use if you need to confine them briefly while you have someone coming in to work in your home. Even a friendly pup can be a nuisance to someone trying to move a couch into your house. I tell my pup "Time for bed" and sweeten the pot with a milkbone biscuit. She walks right in there and it's part of her routine.

Like you, I like my cuddle time on the couch with my little girl and can afford to do so during the day and evening. (I had to rehome her brother because of extreme dogfighting - a long sad story, but both dogs are happier now.) Then really become our babies, don't they? I love the bra bandit story! Didn't take me long to figure out why so many dogs are named Bandit. lol Enjoy!

I have found that he likes his crate. He actually puts himself in the crate at night to go to sleep most of the time. Sometimes I have to do it, but I like the idea of using it to control accidents, and he seems to enjoy being there. We share afternoon naps and he is in his crate and I'm on the couch. It does work out well, and I'm not sorry about the crate. He seems to be completely housebroken now.

The bra story was so funny!! I couldn't for the life of me figure out what was in his crate! Yes, I know why many dogs are called bandit too, but he makes me laugh. He hasn't discovered my shoes yet, thank God, and hopefully he never will. He is a sweetie, and I'm absolutely crazy about him. Yes, here he was lying on my bra! Typical male!!!! LOL!!!!

I'm sorry you had to rehome your male dog, but I'm sure you found him a good home with loving people. I know that our older cat absolutely HATES Remy, and I'm just hoping, with time he will at least adjust to the dog without hissing at him all the time. He isn't a cat like that, he is quiet and gentle, and I introduced the younger cat to him and he was more accepting. I am still hoping they get along soon, but the puppy has big front paws and likes to "pounce" with them. It scares the cats, but the younger cat likes the dog.

Thank you for your posting, and I enjoy hearing about your baby!!! I love pets, all pets!!

karen,
my dixie will be 12 on jan.24 and still thinks her "cave" is where her orthopedic bed is now. her crate was there for the first month we had her and in her mind, it's still there. she was a bundle of energy during those first few weeks, and i remember talking to my husband the first few days i was alone with her and he was on a trip, saying and crying,"i don't know what i'm going to do with her, she's destroying the house"! she really wasn't, but i obviously had no idea what i was doing! went to my "resident pet expert" and she said right off the bat, you need a crate! saved my and her life!! went to puppy school with her and it helped us learn what to expect from her and to socialize her with other puppies. i think she will be it for us dog-wise. she is exceptional and i just cannot imagine finding one like i found her and putting ALL the time and energy required all over from the beginning again. of course, never say never!

Cheryl, don't get me wrong, Remy is all puppy, but he can be so well behaved when we have taken him out to people's houses. He is so smart, not just because he is my dog, but he is very intelligent, and all I have to do is say No, and shake my head, and he understands. He hears airplanes when he is outside and he watches them in their landing path to the airport, until he can't see them any longer. He is so alert and he is definitely MY dog. He comes to me first, he looks for me, follows me, like a shadow, and will sit and come for me, when I give the command. He's almost 14 weeks, and I feel this is really a great start for him being a puppy.

I agree about the crate, and there are times when I want him safely in the crate to keep him out of harm if I am in the shower or bath, or doing laundry and he doesn't trip me down the basement stairs. He only goes up stairs for now, and he hasn't learned down yet! That can wait. The crate is a good thing, and not "prison" as I thought before I had him.

I'm glad your dog is a baby too, and no matter how old they get, they are still babies and puppies to me!!! Thank you for sharing your stores about your dixie! I just love the unconditional love pets give us! My cat who I had for 18 of her 19 years, gave me complete, total and unconditional love and slept on my pillow every single night, and I miss her so much. I never had a dog because she was so old, I worked, and it's not fair to the dog to be kept in a crate all day with no one home, but that's just how I feel about it. I wanted a dog when I retired, and the time was right, and I am so pleased we found this breeder and she has marvelous dogs!! I feel so blessed to have him!

Hey Karen,
I've been a slacker too, but you have your new pup, he's more important! They are so like little children, they just want lots of love and attention, just precious.

Take care of that baby!

Hey Joy,

I just don't know where the day goes and I just haven't been posting. I do read some of the things, but not all.

I really do want to give this dog queality time, and I want him to be a good dog, so that he will behave and act civilized around others, so I give him as much time as I can.

I have missed you and all of the ladies here, and I do wish you all a Happy New Year.

I will take care of him. He's so much fun!
