Subject: Fake nail getting ripped off
Message: i got my nails done today and i was making my bed and tucking the sheets under the matress and jammed my pinker nail into the matress and my fake nail is still stuck to my real nail and totally bent back to like the middle of my nail. what do i do?? there is no way of me taking off my acrylic nail with all this pain. i have a tight bandaid on it right now to hold it down cuz if i bump it again i'll rip the whole nail off completely.

Message: yes, you are right brittany, your nail is totally adhered to the acrylic. your own nail underneath, to the bent part, is dead. once it's bent like that it does not re-attach. wait a few days for the pain to subside, then with toenail clippers, cut the acrylic back as far as you need to so it doesn't catch and flip back more. the only way to remove the acrylic from your nail is to soak it in acetone. it's not pleasant and it's not going to feel good to do it, but it's the only thing that will remove and melt the acrylic. the acrylic should have come off when you knocked it, leaving the nail injured but intact. the fact that it didn't leads me to believe that a banned product called MMA was used to make the acrylic ball. it's still used in a lot of asian run nail salons-if that's where you happen to go. so much for the removal lessons, now i'm going to tell you that all of your nails are damaged underneath this acrylic mixture and are drilled, filed, and dehydrated everytime you go for a fill. re-think this before you end up like more than a few of us have with our own nail beds completely thinned out and lifted from the nail beds, fungal and bacterial infections or allergies to the acrylic that leave you with blistered skin around your nails. it's not a pretty picture when something goes wrong and it doesn't take much or long for it to happen.

Message: Brittany - Is your nail bleeding at the point where it bent back to? I once closed a pinky in a desk drawer and that happened. I saw stars just like I imagine you did. Take all of Cheryl's advice about gently trying to trim back for now. Also, acetone is going to sting like heck if you've split the nail bed. Before soaking I'd suggest gently buffing off the top as much as you can first - less soaking time. Again, if the nail bed is split and open, put a little antibiotic ointment on that spot before bandaging. Good luck!
