Subject: OT - Paging foundation experts....
Message: I spoke with Barbara on the phone Saturday morning after she received some eyeshadows I'd sent. We'd had some sort of miscommunications about foundation and Bare Escentuals in general and I thought she was ordering the starter kit and didn't send any foundation. I felt terrbible about that, but sometimes miscommunications turn out for the best because, after talking to her, I'm not so sure BE foundation is the product for her, foundation wise. So, I'm calling in my fellow product experts for a consult here!
Here's the scenario. Foundation is a new frontier for her. Her skin is lightish, but freckled. She's interested in evening out, ease of product use and moisture. The product I grab that delivers all of the above is Laura Geller's Balance & Brighten and I think it could be right for Barb because of less guesswork on color, just ONE brush included, and it is a way less intimidating product to firsttime users. (I switch off between 4 different foundations these days, depending on my mood and the climate.) Of course I was hoping Ebay had one for $20, as I'd purchased, but currently no listings. I put up a watch for it, though.
Other opinions?

Message: Good morning,
I am not an expert, but I have recently tried the Philosophy Supernatural Airbrush. A switch from BE, which was way too messy for me.
The Philosophy is the easiest, best, and most beautiful I have ever used..the cost is 35.00, thought. I have never shopped Ebay..believe it or not. For light skin I would try Natural..it's very forgiving and works with a range of skin tones.
Good luck,
Nita

Message: Just something to consider...Dr D's SPF daycream. Does great job of evening skin tone, moisture, and the spf is a must for me. I use it as a foundation, since it dries matte you can add any foundation make up over it. Someone passed this tip on to me about foundation...apply only where you need it because sometimes "all over" coverage can be aging...and I don't need that!:)

Message: I've been using the lightest shade of BE foundation (I've got Snow
White skin so I always have to use the lightest shade of
anything). I also use the BE mineral veil. It gives a nice finished
look to my skin, but I've never found BE to be good at covering
my age/sun spots, so it may not be up to Barbara's expectations
for freckle coverage. On the other hand, I ran out of the BE
Bisque to use as a concealer over spots, just reordered it, and
will try using the Bisque to cover age spots along with my BE
foundation to see if that works for better coverage.
I'm mainly using BE because I already stocked up on so much of
it plus it's easy (but I agree, messy) to use, and I've never liked
the gooey feeling of some liquid foundations. However, I have
extremely dry skin (I use rich moisturizers) and BE certainly does
not help moisturize. So again, Barbara may be more interested
in a liquid or a cream-to-powder foundation. I do have a Shu
Uemura cream-to-powder foundation (available at Sephora) that
I like, too.
I am interested in Lynnie's comments about the Laura Geller
Balance & Brighten because I did buy a Today's Special Value kit
with that in it - I just haven't tried it yet because I'm trying to
use up some BE first. But perhaps that might be a good match
for me. It sounds like both Barbara and I have fair skin with
some colorations that we would like to cover, as well as to
moisturize, so I'm really interested in what Barbara ends up
liking the best.
Thanks to Margo for the tip about Dr. D. I don't dare buy
anything else until I reduce my inventory of beauty products (are
we beauty junkies some times or what?) but I'll keep that in
mind.

Message: Nita - I have that one too. I agree it gives easy coverage and mentioned that one to Barb as well. I was a little stumped on color because I ordered Beige which is close to my skin but sometimes a little yellowish. When I use that I add a dusting of BE Glee over the top. My sister is a little lighter than me in Winter and she ordered the Natural. That one could work for Barb, I agree.
Margo - I'm just starting to try her products. So, when you use the daycream you don't bother with a foundation primer? I bet I would enjoy that product for Summer because I just use bronzers lightly then. But, I am going to try her new foundation from tomorrow's show.
Wow, Jill, you have great self control in that you haven't tried the Laura Geller yet. I'll be interested to see how YOU like it. I think it's probably one of the most fool-proof foundations out there. I'm a bisque lover too and when I don't have time to spot conceal with it, the Balance & Brighten seems to do the trick in coverage. My latest trick (for cold weather days) is using a liquid foundation and applying it with a brush. I've been doing that with Clinique's Repairware but I think it's making my forehead break out a little. Might be too heavy. Still, a nice look and feel. Of course, beauty junikes r us!

Message: Lynnie, I have used just about every Dr D product and loved them....started using Green Cream 2 months ago and it has made major impact on my skin! Right now I am just using GC after cleansing with very mild cleanser, little pure emu oil at night. Same in a.m. and apply Dr D tinted SPF, that's it, unless I use some foundation but that is not very often.

Message: Lynnie,
That's interesting that you've been trying the Repairwear
foundation with a brush. I have been thinking about going back
to Clinique after many years away, since they have finally come
out with so many good anti-aging products. But again, I must
make my current inventory dwindle first - I realized I had a huge
drawer filled with makeup, and the reality is that I only wear it
now on days that I have client meetings or social occasions.
When I worked in a corporation, I wore makeup everyday, but
working at a home office just doesn't warrant it anymore. When
I'm ready to try the Repairwear, I'll try it with a brush. Thanks for
warning about the possible breakouts - I usually don't have that
problem but you never know.
Don't pat me on the back regarding willpower over not starting
the Balance & Brighten. I'm dealing with so many other things in
my life right now that I'm just keeping things simple, including
just reaching for my little makeup bag that has my current stuff
in it. But your good review of the B&B has me looking forward to
trying it. I will report on it when I do.

Message: Margo - I've seen everyone raving about the Green Cream. I have such sensitive skin, so I would probably start at the lowest level, right? Like Jill, though, I have a stockpile of face lotions at present, so I'm afraid to read too much just yet! I'll hit you up with questions when I'm ready, though. I'm so impressed with Dr. D's RestoreEyes that I'm wanting to try more of her products. I ordered Hyrdoshield and am going to try her foundation.
Jill - the brush technique with liquid is pretty neat! You put a dime-sized squirt on the back of your hand and dip the tips of your brush in. "Stipple" it in an area of your face then sort of blend and feather. Repairware is nice and dewy looking. Some days I like dewy, some days I like matte. But I'm with you, if I'm in all day I tend to wear nothing but moisturizer. I think you skin looks that much nicer when you DO use foundation after a day or two off. Aside - how are you feeling lately?

Message: Good Morning Ladies.
I agree - if Barbara has dry skin, the first place to start would be a good skin care regimen. I have extremely oily skin and the first time I tried BE, I absolutely hated it. I found philosophy about 6 months later, then after using philosophy exclusively for about 6 months, I gave BE another try and love it. It has been my exclusive make-up now for about 3 years.
I use some of the Dr D products as well. I love her FF pads at night. She also has a vitamin C skin tightening mask that I use about 2 times a month. I love her RestorEyes. I tried the Ultrashield for the face and my face is already oily enough - this is too much for me (I think it came in a kit I purchased).
I think for Barbara, a good basic cleanser (I love purity by philosophy) and then a good day cream and a good night cream. I use philosophy HIAJ (day) and WHINE (night). Again, I have oily skin and Barbara may be able to use something with more upmhh in it....lol

Message: I use BE, but have also tried other brands of MMU. What works really well for me in this cold weather is to mix a little BE with my face serum or moisturizer in the palm of my hand and apply like a liquid foundation. Kind of a double whammy - moisture and coverage. Guess you could call this a tinted moisturizer. You can also control the amount of coverage you want that way, too. Barbara could try the BE using this method and that might work for her. I know some that even mix their BE with a little extra-virgin olive oil and use it as a liquid. I think freckles are cute so I don't think Barbara should totally cover them, but maybe not go with too light a color of BE. A light/medium color may work best.
