Subject: Newbie with Nubs

Message:
Hello. Just discovered this website and placed my order for the "kit" to save my hands and nails. I'm about 3 months post-acrylic removal and still struggling. Actually was tempted to get them put back on to end the painful catches on shreds of nails. I use the "One Minute Manicure" scrub with helps with flakes and dry skin but has not helped my nails recover. I brush on the Jessica brand "restoration" clear coat which is helping the base of the nails to stay strong while the flimsy ends grow out and bend until I cut them off. I'm hoping this will work and look forward to receiving it as my New Year's gift to myself! Nice to meet you all.

BTW, what is the Q board and how do I get there? Sounds like fun and I definitely need more of that.

Kat

Hi Kat,
Everyone seems to be busy today with Christmas Eve Eve details. I am afraid you are stuck here with me for now. Not to worry, they will return, but in the meanwhile, I will explain a few things and hope this helps with your recovery!
Any thing that dries ON the nails, dries OUT the nails, so be cautious using paints and polishes that further dehydrate the nails and cuticles. If you use polish remover, use a non acetone remover and even then no more than 2 time monthly, this according to the Mayo Clinic.
I am really glad to hear that you didn't cave into the "desire for instant gratification" and reapply the topical treatments. That will only prolong the agony and recovery time. You will soon be on your way to healthy natural nails
If your nails are thin and tender and painful at all then I would suggest that you not buff immediately. Allow some time with the growth formula for the nails to strengthen and become less sensitive. When you do start buffing, use very light pressure. The buffing cream has a mild abrasive so go lightly. If you have further questions we are right here. All you need to do is let us know how we can help!

Kat,
you made good choices in ordering the growth formula and not putting the acrylics back on. they are so damaging and destructive and you don't know how much, sometimes, until you take them off and see what's left. have patience with the formula. let it do its magic for 30 days without polish or drying removers, as hard as that might be. i've been there. i know what the "shreds" look and feel like, but they will recover and be healthy again. the first thing you will notice is your cuticles becoming and staying more hydrated, then they will start to grow and become healthy again. some people have immediate results, some take months. everyone is different. patience is the key. you have any questions, we will be right here.

Thank you for the tips regarding buffing. I'll definitely wait a while to start that part of the process. There's about 1/4" of damaged nail left to grow out, and one nail has receded behind the quick line so it's the most painful. It will be a process of withdrawal from polishes, as my mother was an Avon lady for 25 years and I've always had quite the arsenal of colors and coatings. I also have quite an addiction to pedicures and love to have red toenails. Not sure what I'll do with that situation.
Merry Christmas!

Good choice to try everything before caving to the acrylics, especially at holiday time. I took mine off 5 months ago and have been using the NGF for 3 weeks now. Before that I tried ProStrong, which made those thin ends very brittle. As Barb said, that only continues the drying out cycle on your new nail. Like you, I didn't know how else to seal them other than buffing and applying some sort of lacquer product over them. That peeling gets soooooo annoying.

What I'm noticing about the NGF is that somehow it does seal the peeling. Plus, I think the stimulation of rubbing it in has made my nail beds pinker. They looked sort of yellowish and dead before, probably from lack of circulation for 3 years! I'm now on my last little strip of damaged area from fills and can't wait till I'm working on totally new nails. But I do have little white tips that are holding up in the meantime and I'm not having to file down to the quick. You're in the home stretch now. Hope it works as well for you. I don't even want to put a coat of polish over mine because there's no more ugliness to hide.

Best wishes!

Kat - you aren't talking to yourself. That was me up above. I get gradeschool flashbacks on this board and tend to use my salutation in the name slot.

Indulge yourself with the pedicures. Enjoy them and while you are having someone tend to your little piggys, rub in some of the formula and relax.
Merry Christmas Everyone!
