Subject: More on hand creams

Message:
Like many of you, I'm always on the lookout for a rich hand
cream that works! I think Cheryl and I, and probably several
more, are big fans of shea butter. I try to find fragrance-free
formulas whenever possible.

I saw some raves on the Q forum about some products called
Glysomed that include hand creams and body lotions. Has
anyone heard of them or had experience with them? I checked
out the website but would trust all of your experiences. It
sounds like they are available at drug stores so I doubt they are
too expensive. But I'd rather save my money for something that
really works (hint, hint, Barbara, I'm encouraging you, too, to
pursue the hand cream idea).

Anyway, if you've heard anything of Glysomed or any other good
recommendations, I'd appreciate it. I do use Paula Begoins silk
body lotion (it's fragrance free) and often use it on my hands
during the day.

Take care,
Jill

Hello Stranger!!!!Welcome home!!!!
I am not familiar with that one. Shea Butter is the one I hear the most raves over. My hubby just told me to order some, so we could compare ours to theirs. Where can I get it. We do have a CVS locally. Other than that and Wal Mart we are out of shopping *LUCK*!

Barbara,

Thanks for the welcome home, but I'm still in a major health
crisis and only posting when I'm up to it. I'll email you separately
about the details because I know you inquired about what was
happening with me. I continue to be thankful for the prayers and
support I receive from this wonderful group.

The Shea Butter I use is from L'Occitane. I first started ordering
from Q but discovered there is a L'Occitane boutique in San
Diego - not my part of the county but occasionally I get to that
mall so I can stock up then. I use it mainly on my heels because
it is quite thick and a bit naturally fragrant, so I don't always like
to use it on my hands when I'm at the keyboard. But it definitely
is emollient and great on hands or any rough spot. L'Occitane
also has a website so you can read up or order from there. I
presume some of the beauty stores such as Sephora or their
websites might have it.

I've read various reviews of other much less expensive shea
butters from Wal-Mart and drug stores - some people love them
and some people have mentioned skin irritation. But why not try
whatever brand you can find at Wal-Mart, because I presume
that anything that is 100% shea butter or at least a high
concentration of shea butter must be pretty good.

Take care,
Jill

Glysomed has been around as long as me . . . since dirt! lol Very concentrated; a little goes a long way. It also has a faint fragrance that at first can be a little offputting. Not unpleasant though. I'm going to check it out next time I get to town, see if it contains alcohol or petroleum based ingredients. You should be able to find it in any drugstore; Walmart.

Walmart usually has a section of natural cosmetics somewhere near the vitamins and supplements. You can find 100% shea butter, and shea based body butters, there. The ones in the actual cosmetics dept are usually waaaaay perfumed and low in shea content. HTH :^ )

Petrolatum is not at all a harmful by product. It is in fact very useful in the cosmetic industry. The following are a few of the copy/paste definitions of the product and practical application uses.

Petrolatum: Used in creams, it softens and soothes skin. Forms a film to prevent moisture loss.

# Petrolatum

Petrolatum is another word for petroleum jelly. It’s used in creams as a lubricant, to soften and soothe the skin. It also seals in moisture.
petrolatum

Related: Organic Chemistry
(pĕtrelā´tem) , colorless to yellowish-white hydrocarbon mixture obtained by fractional distillation of petroleum. In its jellylike semisolid form (known as petroleum jelly and also by several trade names) it is used in preparing medicinal ointments and for lubrication. As a nearly colorless, highly refined liquid known as liquid petrolatum, liquid paraffin, or mineral oil, it is used as a lubricant, as a laxative, and as a base for nasal sprays.

I have learned from reading the Q beauty board that some of the ladies have horrible reactions to anything with petroleum in it. It seems if you can't use it, it's a really bad reaction. No middle ground.

Glysomed Hand Cream - the ingredients are Glycerine, silicone, chamomile and antioxidants. I have never used it and never heard of it until I read about it on the Q board. The website gives limited information.

Moi I understand that is true too. But there are plenty of products that contain it. You just have to be diligent in reading the ingredients.

Me, read labels?? I was posting like a madwoman over on Q asking how to know if my OOO face wash has soap in it? What ingredient should I look for. Someone pointed out to me that on the front of the bottle is says Soap Free. LOL

Glysomed is well liked by the nurses that I work with. I saw it at Costco a couple of weeks ago. Not too expensive either.
