Barbara, first thing you have to know is that BE stands for Bare Escentuals. I would suggest you get their starter kit, which has 4 of their best "staple" products. But, if you go to Sephora for a color match, I would happily send you the DVD I got in a starter kit I ordered for my daughter. It's very helpful and I'll never watch it again.

Barb - here is the kit I would recommend from Sephora's website: http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P116620&categoryId=C10470
It's $60 at Sephora, but they DO sell this kit on Ebay for $49 plus shipping. There are many reliable power sellers there and these kits are sealed. (On Ebay, just search for "Bare Escentuals Get Started Kit" and then select "Buy it now" items in that left column.) What's nice about this kit is it has 3 brushes. Believe it or not, you would pay about $50 if you purchased brushes alone separately. This kit also has 2 foundation colors. You just have to decide whether you are light or medium. My daughter is relatively fair and I got her the medium. The Warmth in that kit is a bronzer color to use lightly to warm up your face. We former sun worshippers love that one and it looks good year round. The mineral veil gives you a soft finished look after you have appplied everything. There is a video with this kit you will find very helpful.
The only other product I would add to this kit is the Bisque, which is a concealer you use under your eyes and on flaws before foundation. You can touch up with it afterwards as well if you haven't covered well enough. I have plenty of this kicking around and could send you a sample. You apply that with that small concealer brush you see there. I love that brush. Oh, and if you want blush, just use your own for now.
I think this is the best intro kit to familiarize, but not overwhelm you. The jars are not the giant full sizes, but they aren't the itty bitty samples either. Plenty in them to last a good 6 months if you use it daily.

I have a new daughter-in-law and I am giving her the starter kit for Christmas. I actually ordered it from Sephora when they had their big 20% off sale. Now maybe she will stay out of mine!!! You should get the booklet that I sent you in a few days. I agree with Lynnie - only start off with the basics. If you go for instruction when you go to Lenox, go to the BE boutique and not to Sephora. They are very helpful there. I have been to a couple of the boutiques and I can't say that about all of them, but this particular one is very helpful. And, if you decide to buy more than the "basics" - look for kits.

I really do hope this will even out my ruddy complection. Thats what my hubby calls it "ruddy!"

Barb - It will absolutely even out the complexion. Alot of people who have rosacea love it because it does the job but never looks mask-like. What you'll be able to do with your kit is first even out your complexion with the foundation. Then if you want to add extra color, you'll use the Warmth. The video will show all those techniques. What will surprise you is that it stays put all day, especially when you buff yourself afterwards with the mineral veil. Can't wait to see how you like it! It's a good treat for the new year.

Deb - I'm glad you agreed with the kit idea because I know you're a pro too! Then later you can steer Barbara to sites like Colorful Sprinkles. I have a couple tried and true power sellers with stores on Ebay I use all the time as well.
Barb - Oh, I have some extra eyeshadows that just aren't dark enough for me. They might be perfect for you. I'll gather them and a bisque sample to send. Minerals don't spoil or get tainted because you apply them from the lid and don't dip into the pot. (So you won't get my cooties.)
