Subject: Just removed acrylic nails
Message: I just had my acrylic nails removed one week ago. I had tham on for about a year. Now my finger nails are THROBBING!!! They are so sore and sensitive. Is this normal and if so how long does it last and is there anything I can do to help the pain?

Message: jessica,
unfortunately, it is not normal, but many of us who have removed them have had the same thing happen. your nail beds were thinned out out, time after time, fill after fill. this makes the nail bed just that much more sensitive when exposed. please don't consider putting them back on. it will be even worse the next time you remove them. how did they remove them? were they soaked in acetone or just popped off? apply a light coat of neosporin plus. it has a pain relief ingredient in it. rubbing some vitamin e oil into them will help with the dehydration of the nail bed. if they start looking really inflammed or start having fluid, then you are most likely dealing with an infection and need to see a doctor. this may take 6 months or longer to completely heal, or for a new healthy, acrylic-free nail to grow out. many of us here have done this. it just takes time, patience and some healing.

Message: Cheryl, they were soaked in aceton, then peeled off. thank you for your advice, i will give it a try. Thankfully it is down to only 4 of my nails that are REALLY sore and the rest are just sensitive.

Message: Jessica,
Cheryl gave you good advice. The only thing I would add from my own experience, don't let them get too long at first because you may bend them or break them. I've had my acrylics off since August. I had acrylics for 7 years, then quit for a year or two and started up again but had so many infections and allergies, I decided I'd had enough.
