 Subject: nail about to pop

Hi- I smashed my ring and middle fingers on my hardwood floor almost 2 weeks ago. I also have acrylics on so it was very very painful. I have had both acrylics removed from those 2 fingers. The middle one is purple and i assume will fall off eventually. The ring finger is fine in color but i can lift up my real nail quite a bit. The bed is still in contact though. Should i try and cut as much of my nail off as possible or just let it grow out?

Oh Jamie, my first suggestion is that you rid yourself of the remaining fake nails. That can only bring future problems. If you did not damage the matrix they should recover. Keep them protected for a while so that there is no more trauma inflicted. It would be of benefit that you apply some wintergreen to the nails. Or at the very least use Neosporin Plus to help minimize the pain.

your ring fingernail will not reattch itself once it has come loose, whether it's purple or not. i would trim it down at least to the end of the finger tip just so you don't accidentally smack it and cause it to flip the rest of the way back and do even more damage.

OUCH, Jami! I remember once closing an acrylic in a desk drawer and I saw stars. I'm glad you removed those two to see what's happening underneath, but agree with the others that removing the rest and trimming down to avoid snags is a good idea.
