Subject: Shopping for dad!
Message: How old is your dad, Denise?
Mine is 80; he loves to read. Especially history. We keep him supplied with mostly local history, out here in homestead country.
This year is the 60th anniv. of the end of WWII, there are some excellent books out about that conflict and the heroism of our soldiers.
Gardening is another subject he really enjoys. :^)

Message: Hi Lark,
My dad has been gone since 1979.... I wish he could be here to see our last teo children and all of his great grand children. I had 3 of our 5 children when he passed away. Boy he thought the sun rose and set on our daughter Faith! That was about the high point to his life. In fact when she was bor the first thing he said to me was, "Well you cartainly did this right!" Man I haven't thought about that statement in years. What a beautiful memory. Thank you!

Message: Hi Barbara. Sorry your dad is gone. That is so great, though, that he knew you had a new family started, to carry him on! My Mom's dad related to me the same as your dad an daughter! He was my best pal in the world until I was 12! Then I got my first REAL hard life lesson. :^ ( This is the best time of year to look back at those good memories. Let them push away all the feelings of gotta, gotta, rush, rush; better to smile and not be overwhelmed. Sleep well! :^ )
(watchadoin; up so late?!!)

Message: Oh, I wish my dad was here to shop for. I lost my dad in 1993. We moved my mom from Florida to Georgia - she now lives right across the street from me. My oldest daughter and my dad were inseparable. I wish he had been here to see the birth of her babies. But, the memories I have of my dad will sustain me until I see him again someday. He was/is an awesome man.
Aren't memories wonderful?

Message: I lost my Dad 12 years ago and cherish my Christmas memories. I have a video tape of my family's Christmas Eve before he was diagnosed. He favorite hymn was "Silent Night" and I can hear him humming it in the background. That is so special to me. I liked shopping for him because my mother was sort of a cheapskate, so I pampered him with maybe a nice sweater which usually became his favorite for the year. He had a great sense of humor, so I also shopped for fun/gag gifts like nose hair trimmers. One year I got him a silly tie protector on a roller, like a rolldown shade, as he was notorious for spilling on his ties. I can still hear him laughing, even while opening his gag gift.
At heart, I think we'll always be Daddy's Little Girls. We were luck to have fathers that made us feel so loved and valued.

Message: Lynnie,
My dads favorite was "Silent Night"! WoW! On Christmas Eve his and me Mums best mates would come over for a bit of nip. My dad played harmonica, Mum played the organ, Henry, Dads best mate, played violin, and Deanie had a voice like spun gold. We would all sing carols and have a spot. At about 8:00 we all got to open one gift and then the party started.!!!!
Deb,
How nice for you that your Mum is right there with you to share all the memories and make so many new ones. Enjoy it all to the fullest. Too soon they are gone. But never forgotten.
My Dad was a walking history lesson about Nazi Germany. He could have given your Dad some real insight Lark, about political deception, and crowd passions.
You guys are giving me one of the best memory Christmases I have enjoyed in forever.

Message: May I suggest a gift for dad, mom or grandparents. A “diary” of questions they can write the answers to. Some of the “questions” we have in the little book. Mom and Dad’s full name, date and place of birth. Favorite memory of parents and or holidays. Nicknames, childhood addresses you remember, where did you go to school and favorite subjects. Reason for joining the Air Force...each page has a different question and a space for the answer. Think you get the idea.
Anyway I treasure the answers that were written in their hand. Since scrap booking is so popular the “diary” can be as simple or fancy as one’s imagination. Just an idea for the hard to buy for members of the family.

Message: Kasi, that's a fabulous idea! While my dads mom was still alive, I sent her a notebook with questions about her family and about my dad specifically. What a treasure that has become and helped me immensely in doing my family history. Though there were some things she was totally off on... LOL

Message: kasi, I wish I could have had this suggestion years ago. My family is all gone and there are so many questions I have for them. My grandparents were all dead before I was born, so I have only brief stories about them. I think this is a wonderful idea!!! I'm glad you had the ability to have this in your family. What wonderful treasures!!!
