Subject: nails turning under
Message: I have always had long strong beautiful nails. After my son was born, I noticed my right pointer finger nail would curve down and feel very smooth. That was seven years ago. Now both pointer fingers and both index finger nails curve down when they are grown out. Not long nails mind you, I must keep them cut to the very tips of my fingers to keep them from curving down. What is going on? Can I fix this?

Message: Eggshelling can be caused by several things...improper diet, internal disease, medications, and nervous disorders. It's just VERY hard to find the exact cause!
Eggshell nails are fragile, so keep them conditioned... Solar Oil is a GREAT brand of cuticle oil to use (rub it over the whole nail and under the free edge). I have tried a lot of cuticle oils on my clients, but nothing seems to work as well nor absorb as well as this does. Many of the others have oils with molecules that are too big to be absorbed by the nail, but Solar Oil doesn't.
When you file them, remember to file from the side to the center--NEVER "saw" the nails, that only promotes breakage (in anyone).

Message: I like susie have always had long strong beautiful nails naturally. Now that I have had my son, the right pointer finger nail turns down. I am now having my second and I have noticed that my left pointer finger nail is starting to turn down. I have started taking extra calcium pills, which have helped some. I wanted to know if there was anything else I could do to correct the problem, or if it can be corrected. My nails are not brittle or thin, not even the eggshell ones there actually very strong. I just want to know if there is anything I can do to make them grow straight again.

Message: I like Susie and Chasity of the others have over the last 7 years since I had my 3 boys, all 2 years apart, have formed what I just found out to be Eggshell nail and would love to know if there are maybe vitamins that I may not be getting that I may need to help this. Both of my pointers and middle fingers as well as my right ring finger all curve down and I have to keep them clipped a certain short length or it really bothers me curving to my skin. I am up for any suggestions.

Message: nicole,
some people have had luck with taking biotin. it did not help or hurt mine. others on this forum take a supplement called andrew lessman's hair & skin vitamins-i hope i have that name right. maybe they will jump in and give some more suggestions. any chance it could be genetics playing a role in how they grow?

Message: Hi!
I have been taking Lessmans Hair, Skin and Nails and I have to say I've noticed an improvement in hair more than my nails. My nails to seem to be thicker, but I am not sure if that's the NGF, the HSN or a combo of both.
I remember a friend, Sonja, from high school. Her nails did that curve down thing and so did her mothers. So, it seems to me it could be genetics.
