Subject: support our small business
Message: my mom drilled it into my head, year after year, support the small business people first, not only at christmas, but during the year. it's not going to stop the power of wal-marts and home depots but at least we will have a choice.

Message: Agreed! My first concern with where I spend our hard earned money is customer service! If the people are nice and if they are responsive to me when I am handing them my green!
If they are too big, too busy, too, too, they don't need me!

Message: I wholeheartedly agree. We need to maintain our small businesses...I am not always looking for the "cheapest" item, i.e. Walmart, I want quality...we all have shopped at major outlets and we know that you rarely find anything "made in the USA" anymore. And unfortunately, the quality isn't always there. So, I would rather shop with independent, smaller retailers, when I can, that offer the awesome customer service and top notch product.

Message: my mom was always about customer service. bending over backwards for the customers that hung with her for 30 years and for anyone that walked in her front door really. if something wasn't right, she tried to make it right. her big thing was a "smiling voice" when you answered the phone. she might have employed a few designers over the years that needed some help in the experience and design part, but if they had a sweet, kind, voice when they answered that phone it more than made up for it. first impressions.

Message: First impressions in the business world really are the make or break! Once you get that nasty taste you can't Listerine it away!

Message: In my many years of restaurant and retail management, the same thing has been taught. One of the restaurants I managed was Golden Corral and in the training material it says to "Smile, even when the other person can't see you (such as on the phone). What a difference it makes. People have so many choices as to where they can spend their money. I know that even the Waffle House has a sign up that says "You had a choice - thanks for chosing us." Any true joy, I will take quality of quantity anyday.

Message: Amen to that, Cheryl! I always grab cards from small merchants at fairs who have websites. I've ordered things like candles rather than always relying on the biggees like Yankee.
