Subject: FYI, wheelchair update
Message: We are holding at 315.00 and Ruth is attempting to talk with the company that owns the wheelchair she is "renting" via Blue Cross. Hopefully she will be able to purchase the chair outright from them at a fair rate of exchange. She can further explain when she steps in here later on, if things need more clairifacation.

Message: Hi all,
The way it is working, Blue Cross is actually renting the wheelchair I have from an independent Medical Supply company. Blue Cross would not authorize selling it to me because of liability issues. I spoke to a sweet lady at the Medi Supply company and it sounds like they would be willing/able to sell the wheelchair I have right now to me at a used rate. We have to wait until Blue Cross has made their very last payment to find out what the actual cost will be. I was also told that Blue Cross, even though they authorized it, has rejected 2 months worth of payments because there was information missing from the bill. The Med Supply company has rebilled and there "should" be no problem getting the payment. Each payment Blue Cross makes reduces the actual dollar amount I will have to pay for the wheelchair. That's why we have to wait until the final payment is in and the balance is accurately calculated. The other benefit of waiting until the very end is that as long as Blue Cross is paying for it, I can have it serviced at no cost.
This wheelchair, from what I have been told, is a really good brand. High quality and very sturdy. It's the one I have been using so I would really much prefer to keep it and it sounds as though it would come in costing less than a brand new one would.
So, that's where we stand right now. I sure hope you're all taking notes because this has been quite an education in insurance proceedure.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask!

Message: Moi,
See, I told you that things would work out and they will. Believe me I have had my share of fighting insurance companies. The one I had a problem with was United Healthcare for my back surgery but after fighting for 14 months I got my bills paid so it is worth the battle and not give up. That is what they want you to do!
Hang in there! I hope they let you keep the one you have because you are already used to it, that seems like it would be the logical answer anyway.
Take care and thanks for the update.

Message: Hang in there Moi,
My folks are going through their share of fighting with Medicare and Blue Cross too. They're both retired and my mom had had MAJOR medical bills over the past 5 years. Well Medicare is refusing to pay some of her bills, subsequently the secondary Blue Cross is refusing to pay because Medicare won't, it makes me crazy! My mom said to me the other day, "it is so hurtful, you work hard all your life, pay these premiums, and you expect that when you need this coverage it is going to be there for you, and now these people are fighting me!"
This medicare/insurance company stuff is really sickening. When you are sick the last thing you want to have to do is go through this stuff...my folks have a lawyer now...

Message: Thanks for the update. Would they give you an estimated amount on what your cost would be?
Please know, we are keeping up the prayers.

Message: I did ask her for an estimate but she didn't say. I asked her how much it would be to buy used, if I just called up and said "hey I want to buy a used wheelchair" and she said that it all depended on the condition of the wheelchair. She was rather evasive about a couple of my questions and at one point even had to go ask her supervisor about something. I'm hoping ::fingers crossed:: that they will actually convert it to a sale when it's all over.

Message: Thanks for keeping us posted. If you do get an estimate out of
them, please let us know.
It sounds like each of us has had our share of fighting insurance
companies. We could probably write a book about this issue - of
course, we'd be typing the manuscript with healthy nails!
