Subject: solar oil uses
Message: Can any of you tell me if SOLAR oil is good for dry heels? Also, where can you buy it? My skin is very dry and the growth formula is working very well on my poor nails (2 weeks after removing gel nails). I would really like to find something that would help my heels. They are cracked deeply and they snag my hose. Any ideas? Would the solar oil be the way to go???

Message: jane,
no, i would not use solar oil on my heels. i used it on my nails before i found the NGF and i never found it to be that moisturizing. the few times i've had cracked skin on my feet, it hurt-do the cracks cause you any pain? if not, then i would use pure shea butter on them. they need to be covered at night while you sleep, lathered in moisture. if you can, cover them with a large bandage, after you moisturize. this might sound silly, but keeping them moisturized while you sleep is essential and that is nearly impossible if you can't keep the heel covered.

Message: Hi Jane,
See what do I know! It's the Shea Butter that will do the trick. That's why I wanted you to ask the question in here, you will get real answers to just about anything from these ladies. If you had not asked, you would have wasted the money on the solar oil and I would have mud on my face. A concept I do no not relish!
Cheryl, thank God I have you to head off my stupidity. I told her to try the solar oil. I had read about it being so great for moisture. DUH! What exactly is the solar oil for? Thanks!

Message: Solar oil is brilliant. You can use it on your heels if you wanted. But you would be better off with solar butter or solar silk. The stuff is brilliant and smells lush. Although the other advice is great too. There is a also a cram that creative do for cracked heels. Supposed to work wonders.Give it a try.

Message: solar oil is a combination of almond, jojoba, and vitamin e oils. it is a good cuticle moisturizer, but, for whatever reason, probably just on me, made my cuticles feel dryer. i don't know if it soaked in too fast or what. i loved the smell, but never felt like it was that moisturizing. cracks in the heels need an ingredient that will hold in the moisture overnight. something with lanolin or shea butter. solar oil is good to use on nails if you don't have the nail growth formula, of course! i've got nothing against it. but, cracked heels need more.

Message: I've suffered with cracked heels for years. I usually use pure shea
butter on them at night and then put on socks. Years ago, my
dermatologist told me to use Am-Lactin 12% (used to be
prescription but is now over the counter at drug stores) because
it is an alpha-hydroxy acid and exfoliates the dead skin. I have
tried that faithfully and found it was about the same as the shea
butter in terms of results, so I trade on and off. I've also read on
other bulletin boards that there are specific heel creams in drug
stores that work. I've also heard of a cream called Aquaphor that
is supposed to be good- I recently got a sample with a purchase
of something else and look forward to trying it. I haven't tried
the solar oil or butter, but happened to get a whiff of it at the
hair salon I go to and I agree that the fragrance is wonderful!
Because I always tend toward dry skin in general, I do take fish
oil and/or other essential fatty acids supplements, too. A friend
started taking fish oil capsules and one of the surprise benefits
is that her heel cracks healed! That hasn't happened yet for me
but essential fatty acid supplements are good for heart health
and inflammation anyway, so I can see where it might help the
skin.

Message: I have the dry heels too. Drives me nuts because they are an issue when I walk barefoot in Summer and an issue when it the weather gets dry in Winter! No matter what you use, I think the key is consistency. Shea butter is good as is a heavier product called Aquaphor. I used to work for a podiatrist that advised Palmer's Cocoa Butter or Lac Hydrin for cracked heels. Using a pumice in the shower to exfoliate in between is a good idea.
