Subject: Upstate NY - discussion cont.

Message:
My hubby was born in Upstate NY. His whole family for several generations back on both sides is from the Albany, Castleton, Delhi, Syracuse areas.
They always talk about the seasons, the beauty, and how upstate NY is almost an entirely different country compared to the city.
I've never been there. Maybe someday!

Upstate is a COMPLETELY different animal from "the city." I am born and raised in NYC. Upstate is lots of farms and country and everything! The city, is well you guys know, it is what it is. You would like upstate Moi, lots like where I am in PA, way less congested, beautiful farmhouses and old homes, mountains...its an overall more relaxing place to live. Although, I do love the city (any city, not just NYC), it does have its appeal, if you can handle it...

Yep, they were farmers. One generation were dairy farmers, the next agricultural folk. I believe they just sold something like 200 acres of land with producing cherry trees on it.
They also bred and showed Morgan Horses. My mother in law used to hassle me all the time about not having a clue what life is about because I was a city girl. One day, she was going on and on and said that her grandkids would grow up not knowing where hamburger came from. Finally, I couldn't take it anymore and I said "Oh, yes they do! It comes straight from the meat department!!"
Anyway... they chose to move out here to CA, so I don't know what her issue was.
Someday I will get a chance to travel I hope. I would like to see the US. Several years ago we went on a driving vacation. We left here, went as far as Denver then up through Wyoming and Yellowstone, then back down home. The most gorgeous country I had seen.
:)

I meant to add that they were weavers also. Amazing people.

Life on a farm always fascinated me. But, I don't think that I would last 1 week doing farm work (probably not even 1 day!), I am a city girl for real, even though I live in the country now, I have city girl tendencies! I stick out like a sore thumb, its pretty funny...

Low country. Front yard was ocean, back yard was intercoastal waterway. I am so land locked! I need beach sand not snow, to feel beneath my feet. I could probably survive being cast off on a deserted island, but not a farm! Not a real, working farm. We have 5 acres of blueberries here, and 5 acres of Pecan trees. We planted 5 acres of pine trees 4 years ago. 3000 of those beggers. One at the time. Out in the February wind for days on end. Can you all tell that is one of my fondest menories!
I can, however, cast a 6 foot shrimp net in waist deep water. Start a fire without matches, cook a fish over an open flame without even the benefit of scaling it, but never consume 1 scale or any internal functioning parts!

Amen to that, Barbara. The only "white thing" I want to see covering the ground is sand. Deserted Island sounds fabulous.

I just got back from Bible Study. I meet with a group of ladies every Tuesday night from 7:30 to 9:30.

My dizzy spell from last night - inner ear. He said the flu that I had and then that 9 hour flight to Hawaii did my poor ears in. He gave me some meds to dry it up. Should be good as new in a day or so. Unfortunately, it will take the bruises longer than that to heal. LOL

Hey Deb,
Did you get my email about my grandsons little playmate? I sent it separately from the reply to your email. I was hoping you'd get it before your study group so they could add this family to their prayers.

Moi - I did get it but not until just a few minutes ago. I will email to them first thing in the morning. I have all their email addresses at work. We will get this family added to our prayer list. We are all in constant communication with each other, so don't worry.

Thank you. His little funeral is Friday. I just can't imagine the pain they are going through.
My daughter knew the family well, of course. She said the mom is a single mom and they had overcome so much adversity in their lives and had come so far only to have this happen. I know there's a 'higher' plan and that we can not know why things happen the way they do. I just have to have faith that there was a 'good' reason for this little boy, at 3 years old, to be taken home.

For those who don't know, I'm talking about my grandsons little play friend. He was 3 years old and was hit and killed by a car on Friday night. So many things had to be in place for this to happen, and they were and it did.

Please pray for them, that they will feel comforted and know that there is a greater plan. One we cannot possibly understand.
