Subject: What Do You Do Ahead?

Message:
I used to do everything on Thanksgiving morning. Now there are things I do a couple days ahead of time.

I cube the bread for the stuffing. I chop and cook the veggies for the stuffing, too.
I make the Spinach and Artichoke Dip ahead and then an hour or so before people come, I take it out of the fridge to come to room temp. I then put it into a sourdough bowl and warm it up in the oven. I make my cranberry sauce ahead of time though this year, in honor of my Grandma Janie I was thinking of just doing what she always did and opening a can, sliding the jellied cranberry sauce out onto a saucer and slicing along the ridges. :)

What things do you do ahead to save time and make the big day more relaxing?

We just had our family meeting after dinner last night to discuss who is cooking what. This is our second year to deep fry a turkey, so hubby is in charge of that. I will make Praline Sweet Potatoes and Broccoli/Cheese casserole that morning and just refrigerate until time to cook them. Daugher and Daughter-in-law will make the rest.....mashed potatoes and gravy, corn on the cob, green bean casserole, stuffing, giblet gravy, rolls - oh my!!

Last year we just took a dish to our son Joeys house. His wife Beth is a fabulous cook. She did it all. Everyone brought the sides. And she can bake like nobodies business.
This year hubby and I are smoking 2 turkeys here. Everyone is bringing something to make it real meal. It looks like it is going to be really cold this year for turkey day, so the children will probably all be inside for the most part.
Since their Papa built them the treehouse last summer most of their time is spent out there, up the tree, but I don't think that will work on Thursday....:::::::::::BBBRRRRRRRR...............

Hahaha! You KNOW what we will be doing! SWIMMING!

This country is so amazing. Snowing in one place, warm and sunny in another. I wish I could be where it snowed now and then but I am sure I would prefer the sun.

Swimming is not allowed! Unless of course you are in southern Cal! Or if your pool is heated!
We used to have a pool in out back yard in Atlanta. When we had parties for the crew at Christmas, the cap it off was a dip into the Spa!
I used to tell my hubby that before we sell the house I want to have a lobster party and cook them in the Jacuzzi!
The furnace on the pool was better than the furnace in the house!
Cierra, one of the grands, is of course getting excited about going to Canada to make snow angels with Grandmother! She knows where to find the snow. She is my little southern polar bear! (LOVE THAT BABY GIRL!)

moi,
believe me, by april, the snow has worn it's welcome off! there is nothing like a white christmas though. all the years i grew up in mississippi, i used to pray for snow days. looks like i got my wish! the funny thing is, the schools don't close up here. all my teacher friends hope for a 6am snowfall, then there's not enough time to plow the school driveways! if they closed school down everytime we got a foot of snow, the kids would never finish the year! we are waiting for lake effect snow right now. lake erie is "warm", the air is cold!! think of me, when you watch the weather channel, and they call for lake effect snow bands! i'm usually getting "dumped" on! it really is a great place to live.

I feel your pain Cheryl, I am a born and bred northerner. Born in NYC, lived in DC for years, now live in PA. Parents both southerners, so I grew up in the best of both worlds. The older I get, the more I do not want to see any snow WHATSOEVER!!! Heaven forbid that the dreaded nor'easter should occur around here! That means blizzard conditions! But it is pretty up here in the mountains...All of you in So. Cal, swimming on Turkey Day, boo hiss! :o)
