Subject: OT. Do you delete cookies?
Message: Please help, I am computer challenged. Do you remove cookies. I checked my cookie folder and find I have over 600 of them!! I know that when visiting places like Amazon, they have my cookie and I will have to enter my password again if I want to order. That's fine, but what about the others. Today I got 10 emails, all junk!! Will that eliminate the unwanted emails? I get from K-mart, Bath and Body, Smithsonian, vitamin companies, etc... I never even visited those sites!! H E L P !! Thanks!!

Message: Grace, why not go into your options and set it so that you will have to make the decision to accept a cookie each time someone wants to pop one of those molded suckers in your computer. They are eating up space on your computer.
Just click on tools, then options and set what ever you want. Clean you cache regularly. That too helps speed up your system and frees up more resources on your hard drive.
You can also set it so that sites you normally use and enjoy, that use cookies, are in your "allowed" sites for setting those things!
Most sites use them to track where you go within their pages, to see what you look at. It is a marketing informational resource. I just call it invasive. That's almost like our mail carrier delivering the mail and sitting down in our living room, without our knowledge, while we read it. Then making notes and returning to the post master general with private information! *BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING!*
Generally the only real need for cookies is when you are shopping and going back and fourth on a site and placing things in your shopping cart. It keeps the items in the cart, so that when you are ready to check out, everything is still there and not "back on the shelf"!
I hope this makes sense to you.

Message: Grace one other point. Any time your email address is located on someones address book such as with Internet Explorer, ESPECIALLY INTERNET EXPLORER! The chances are that address book has been raped! The information is readily available.
So like with my site that is just out there for all to see. If you post your email address when you respond to the forum discussions. Those addresses are basically harvested by people that have software designed to harvest the info. It is in turn then sold to others. When you sigh up for anything what requires your email info, the chances are great that unless it is on a Secure Socket, the information will "get out there"! Sorry! Just the facts Mam!
And one thing I have become painfully aware of since the internet became such an intricate part of my life is this, there are more of them than there is of me. It's hard to keep out the predators. I use an email program called Thunderbird. You can download it from Mozilla. I use Firebird for my browser. Mozilla again. Great products and free for the download. Easy to install and operate. Believe me, computer challenged are US, is an understatement for me. I am just an appliance operator. If I want toast I put bread in the toaster. I don't care how it makes it, just that it does. If I want to get email I don't want to worry about Bill Gates or AOL tracking my every move! IE is the governments answer to a world wide census! Only you don't even know you are participating. Again, BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING! **********PARANOID**********
The address to Mozilla is:
http://www.mozilla.org/

Message: Thanks, ladies! I downloaded it and have it set up already! I like the themes! What a great idea.
I'm grateful to Microsoft for coming up with a Windows idea, it brought computers out of the stone age, IMHO. BUT, I am sooo sick of all the problems with it! That's why I switched to Mozilla and Firefox browsers. It really helps with cookies, pop ups, etc.
There have only been a couple of occasions over the years where Mozilla was down and i had to use IE. Man, what a difference! I am so happy to have Mozilla.

Message: The problem with the Gates stuff is that everybody is gunning for him. So there are always going to be people that hack in. But if he wasn't in such an all fired hurry to make this months new, bigger, better thingy, dowop obsolete, he could put out a product with the holes already patched, and the bugs and kinks worked out! What a concept. A product that actually works, kind of like a power tool with a real cord more than 3 inches, actually attached. UUUUHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!
Can you tell my pet peeves!?

Message: Thanks everyone for all your help...
I did go into tools and options, my privacy setting was at Medium and I changed it to High, is that OK?? Do I have to type in sites that I want and don't want?
I have a pop up blocker too and I changed that to block all.
I have heard of "Clean Sweep" and Mozilla. I'm Chicken Little when it comes to down loading things. I will look into them and give it my best shot.
Barbara, are you suggesting I give up my isp server and use Thunderbird?
Now ::::blushing:::: How do I clean my cache?
and EEEEK... where is it?? Now you will see how computer challenged I *really* am.
Going to sit in the corner now with my Dunce cap.. :(
