Subject: Help for the nail biter
Message: Oh, ladies! I need help! I have been a nail biter for about 50 years and I have tried everything to quit. The only thing that has stopped me over the years was wearing acrylic nails. UGH!!! I decided last weekend (for the umpteenth time) that I really want to have my own natural nails and to NEVER fall prey to the fake nail craze again! I took them off myself (I know that was not a good idea) and they look HORRIBLE!!! I talked to Barbara Saturday and she was so helpful as to how I can gradually get my nails back. I KNOW that it will take time, but they are in such awful shape (peeling, thin.... I know you probably get the drift) and it is SOOO hard not to pick and bite at them!!! Does ANYONE have any suggestions to help me stop this awful habit (other that sheer willpower which is in short supply right now)? Has anyone successfully stopped this habit and gotten healthy nails back??? HELP!!!!
Jane B.

Message: Hi Jane,
Replace the bad biting habit with the rubbing habit. For now just use anything available, lotion, vitamin e oil, anything. Start rubbing in the lotion to the cuticles and nail surface. That will keep both hands busy and out of your face. LOL
When you receive the Growth Formula you can apply it as often as necessary to replace that little biting habit, and before you know it you will not feel the necessity to gnaw on those beggars anymore. You will just learn to enjoy the natural nails that will soon peek over the tips of each and every finger.

Message: Jane,
ME, ME, ME-i've been right where you are!! i bit mine for 36 years. when i say bit, i mean gnawed. most of the time completely chewing the nail away on most of them starting at the age of 4. i have bitten them so low that turning a doorknob or opening a car door was torture after a good bite. i too, thought acrylics were the answer. what they left me with was something even easier to gnaw on. they were just ruined after acrylics. thinned out, transparent, peeling back, sensitive, painful. even my fingertips were sore. i had purchased the growth formula a few years ago, really before i was ready to give up on the torture of acrylics or the biting. i had trial after trial with the acrylics, of techs, leaving me with burns and painful fingers and just had enough one november day and soaked them off and never looked back. you have to be ready in your mind to see this through and not go back to acrylics. this is not an overnight fix. it takes a full 30 days of using the formula as directed. i didn't see any growth for 30 days, but then they just took off. it reacts differently on some of us. yours are in such sad shape, i know, right now, that i'm willing to bet that you will see an improvement in your cuticles and just the healthiness of your nail bed very quickly. i used the buffer in the first week, very gingerly, to smooth out the bits i was tempted to grab. for some people that's too soon. for me it saved them in the beginning. you just have to make the decision to do it and know that it will not happen overnight or in a week, but when they do start healing it will be so worth it and you will have such a feeling of pride when you look down 2 months from now, and know that they are all yours and you made it through when you didn't think you could. we are here to offer support at anytime. i did this, you can too.

Message: I was a nail biter for years and years. I still have to be careful, and if I feel the slightest snag or rough spot, I get the file quickly and smooth it out so I am not tempted to tear or bite or pick the spot. I have not ever had acrylics, so I don't have any specific help for that, but I would just really work on conditioning the nails and cuticles. The nail growth formula sold here is good stuff, I have been using it a few weeks now. As your nails grow a little I suggest that you keep them filed short and smooth until the damaged part is grown out. Have a nail file (a very-very fine one) with you so you can file off the snags as they happen and you will not be as tempted to bite. The file that is sold here is also a good one. It is very fine and does not take off too much nail. Any really sore spots, maybe you should use neosporin. Well, good luck, you can do it. Be patient. When you are at home you could even wear some thin cotton gloves after moisturizing.

Message: I had a problem with picking. I picked day and night and most likely in my sleep. I did it when I was stressed out, nervous or just bored.
I finally decided I would really make an effort to stop and let my nails recover.
Nail Growth Formula has helped me for several reasons. For one, I replaced the bad picking habit with rubbing and buffing the formula. Whenever I get nervous or feel the need to pick at my nails and cuticles, I just use the NGF. Within a couple of days I noticed such an amazing improvement that I wouldn't dream of damaging them again. My nails look nice. They are still short because I file them down. I do that until I'm used to having long nails and until my nails are healthy again. I had so much acrylic damage and picking damage. I was always humiliated to have people see my hands. I stopped wearing any rings at all, even my wedding rings. But now, they look so healthy and manicured (even short) that I wear all kinds of rings. :)
Good luck in your desire to stop the biting. It won't be easy, but just have faith in yourself and remember to replace the bad habit with a good one.

Message: You are in good company here. I've gone through years of biting
followed by years of having long, strong nails, followed by
slipping back into the biting habit due to stress. Right now, I'm
trying to stop biting and grow them out in a healthy way with
NGF, because even when I had long nails they were brittle. I am
finding the NGF is helping me think twice before biting or
picking. Just seeing the beautiful sheen on the nails from the
NGF is a reminder to me that I'm doing something positive. I
have had a few slip-ups but all in all, I am doing better about
leaving my hands alone thanks to the NGF.
Please think of this forum as a support group - that's how I view
these lovely, compassionate ladies. If you or I or any of us are
giving into temptation or overstressed, let's just post and give
each other some motivation.
By the way, decades ago when I tried to stop biting, I did buy
those horrible tasting liquids from the drug store you could
paint on your nails to discourage you. I think it's the same kind
of formula they use for children to discourage thumb-sucking. I
was always embarrassed to buy it, but sometimes it really
helped get me through a few days. Now, I feel that the NGF
routine, my willpower, and the motivation I receive from reading
the NGF success stories will work for me this time.
Jill
P.S. I know I'm signing in from a different Internet Provider, but
it's me - I'm at a computer at a different location tonight.

Message: I bit my nails for 23 years and was only able to stop twice during that time... for about 6 months the first time and 9 months the second. I really thought I'd quit for good the second time but after Hurricane Katrina hit us I started biting again with a vengance.
A year later I was still doing it and decided to try hypnotherapy to quit. It worked like a charm! I rub Burt's Bees Lemon Cuticle Balm into my nails, cuticles and fingertips a couple of times a day and I haven't bitten them since the second hypnotherapy session. It's been a month now! Sound strange? It's really not! I highly reccommend it!
