Subject: Aloha......and suggestions
Message: Well, hubby and I returned from Honolulu about 3 hours ago. We are all unpacked and have the washer going. We had a great time, however, I have a questions. Today is day 14 and even though we have been in Hawaii, I have been faithful with my application. I even took my buffer, file and buffer cream to Hawaii. We did not spend an excessive amount of time in the sun or water. I have noticed an improvement in my cuticles - which is what I was after in the first place. But, now my nails seem more brittle than ever. They are not excessively long - I type alot at work and keep them more at a "sporty" length. But, I have noticed that 3 of them broke doing just simple things - like reaching into my bag for keys upon arrival at the airport. I never had this problem before. Any suggestions?
I posted the same question on the Q board as I noticed that the thread over there is alive and well.

Sorry to hear you are 'experiencing problems'
Could be that the formula just will not work for you. Sorry to hear that. I have not had anyone else report this problem so I am at a loss as to the determining factors.

Message: debodel,
i still think it's too soon, in your process, with the growth formula, to give up. it just might be your own particular "genetic make-up" that your nails might take longer to respond. are you taking any medications that might affect the condition of your nails? i find when i go away and stay in hotels that my skin and nails become very dry in hotel water. any chance your water at home is hard? when you say "brittle" i think dry, crumbly,un-flexible, if you will, which the formula should be helping with. mine were so damaged from the acrylics that it felt like they were just "sucking" the moisture in, in the first 2 weeks. i wouldn't suggest this to anybody else in the first month, but you don't have damage to start out with, cut down to once a day and see how that goes. i don't know, barbara might be correct in saying it might not be the "right" product for your particular nails. give it the full month.

Message: There really is not a one size fits all. No matter what it is. I hope you will at least stay with it until you have consumed the product you have already paid for. It may just take your nails longer than others to make any rea; headway.

Message: Hi deb, welcome home! I am wondering if just the sudden change in climate might account for your problem. If it were me, I would cut back for a few days and see if, after your nails and skin have had a chance to reclimatize and get back to normal!
But congrats on your cuticles! That's where I first saw improvement myself.

Message: Oh, I didn't mention giving up, did I? I was just looking for suggestions. I have always had pretty good nails - it was the cuticle fix I was looking for. Now, after 15 days, I have fairly good cuticles but the nails seem to break easier, maybe a better explanation than brittle. It makes sense - the change in the weather, the water, etc. I guess what I mean't by brittle, was that instead of bending - they now break. As for the cuticles, great improvement - ok, ok -I still have one that I like to pick at and one that seems "thick" for lack of a better word. I don't take medication that would affect my nails, that I know of. I do have hypothyroidism - which tends to dry out the skin around the cuticles, thus the picking ensues which was the reason for trying the product in the first place. I am half way through my first month.
Thanks for the suggestions. I really do appreciate it. Ok, ready to go back to Hawaii now!!!

Message: I have been using the product about 3 weeks and I've broken the ends off about 2 or maybe 3 nails by hitting something on the end of my nail. I know what you are talking about when you say brittle. I think the cold dry weather is making my nails suffer. However, I find my nails are more subtle and flexible than they were three weeks ago. I just think if I weren't using this formula that they would really be a mess. I'm very happy with the growth and the strength I've gained in the 3 weeks I've been using the product and I think they will be even better over time. I feel like my hands in general are dry. I do take 5000mcg of Biotin in addition to using the formula. I'm being patient and I do see results.

Message: jackie, I am not glad that you are experiencing the same, but I am glad that someone can relate. It has been almost 4 years since I had acrylics. I know that the medication and the thyroid condition that I have contribute. That was the reason for looking for a product in the first place. I, too, take a hair, skin and nail supplement that contains biotin. I think that is one of the reason that my nails have been in good shape. I think cheryl brought up a good point since we just came back from Hawaii. The change in water/climate/food never entered my mind. Today is day 16 and the cuticle are much improved. I can't blame it on the cold though, because here in Georgia it has been unseasonable warm, until today that is. I think we are having our first freeze of the season tonight. Oh well, I am off to rub and watch a little TV with my hubby before he heads off to work. Thanks for your insight and input. Deb

Message: Hi Deb,
I saw the weather on WSB. It is supposed to freeze, or come very close to it, you are exactly right. I am just a taste warmer down here in Vidalia. I so miss Atlanta, I am sorry we sold our home in Doraville. All of the children went to Pleasantdale Elementary and then on to graduate at Henderson High. Which is now Henderson Middle School. The kids are terribly unhappy that the Henderson Kids had to attend classes at Tucker, their arch rival in football. Take care.
