Message: Joy & Karen,
Thanks we will be safe....
I grew up on Tybee, and a little island called Rio Vista just south of Savannah. We lived on Moon River. Beautiful way to live. Johnny Mercer was one of the islands residence. His home was 3 doors down from my cousins. When we would go camping on a little island called Pegion Island, (located between Moon River and Skidaway River,) at night you could just barely hear Johnny Mercer playing his piano. It would just drift across the river and we all sat in silence listening to the piano, and watching the campfire. Oh what beautiful memories.

Message: Wow, that sounds so nice, and a "concert" by Johnny Mercer. What more could you ask for! I hope you do enjoy the day, and have some good southern food for me too. I love ocra, corn and tomatoes, cooked together. We used to have that when we would visit my Aunt in Hapeville, GA, just outside of Atlanta, when I was a kid.

Message: Southern cooking, that is one thing, but great seafood , that is totally another.....Most people overcook seafood, bad things happen to people that over cook their seafood!(I hope)
I know right where Hapeville is. We just sold our home in Doraville....Another Atlnata burb. Only it is on the north east side of Atlanta. We were in a Sub-division called Northcrest. 2 door down Northlake Drive from Pleasentdale Elementary School. It is just out side of I-285 off of I-85 at 'spagetti junction'! I miss the goods and services of the Atlanta area, but I love our little 5+ acres here too!

Message: No you didn't say OKRA!!! I love love love Okra. It is not the world's most favorite veggie! When I am home, I beg my parents to make "Okra soup", one of my lowcountry favorite dishes. My dad is from one of the sea islands off the coast of Charleston, Barbara. Wadmalaw, if you've ever heard of it. The S.C. and GA sea islands are amazing! Again, truly among my favorite places. Always said I would buy property down there one day...My how expensive it has gotten! :o(

Message: Barbara and Joy, isn't it a small world. My aunt and uncle lived on a street called Parkway (I think), and when we didn't go to Ocean Grove NJ for vacation, we would go to GA to visit my Aunt and Uncle. He worked at Ft. Mac.
Joy, I can eat okra, I just can't spell it!!LOL
My aunt had help because she wasn't well all the time, and when her ladies would cook we had the best southern fried chicken, green beans with streak o' lean and okra, corn and tomatoes, mixed. And the BEST cantalope on earth. Boy do I miss those days.
One of my best friends from work lives in a townhouse on Pawley's Island, SC.
I think we were all, and I mean all the ladies, were meant to meet and be friends.

Message: I think you are discribing GUMBO with the okra, corn and tomato mixture. We used to add shrimp, or crabmeat to it and make seafood gumbo! Good eatin'............
And we do a low country boil here at our house every 4th of July. All 5 of the children and the 11 grands eat til they just about pop. 'And a fun time was had by all!'
