Subject: Did I Overreact?
Message: I have been arguing with myself since yesterday about something that happened. Here's the deal -
I went to DelTaco (like Taco Bell in case you're wondering) and my kids and I were in the drive thru. In the pick-up ahead of me (at the pick up window) were 5 teenagers. 4 more teens proceed to walk up to this truck and here's the conversation -
Guy #1 says to the driver "Hey, you guys wanna buy some ____ (vulgar 4 letter word for drugs). I have some good ____ if you're interested."
A girl leans across the driver and out the window and asks how much she could get for ---
Guy 1 says he could get her (something something something and a 16th) and she would feel it for 6-8 hours.
So then guy 1 says "You're kidding? For the 3 of you to share? Then you'll still feel it but not hardly"
So, apparently they agree on an amount and a price cuz guy 1 goes to his car to get it. He comes back and says "there's a party at (names the streets) and there's lot's of _____ going to be there."
So, here I am with my kids, 12 & 15, and I'm stunned at the blatant 'dealing' going on. I didn't have my cel with me, and it was an hour before I could get home to call the police and report what I heard. At first I wasn't going to call but I have a rule of thumb and it's "if those were MY kids would I want to know" so I went home and called. It took them over 2 hours to get out there and by the time they did get there the kids were gone.
So I'm thinking to myself... I must be getting really old and grumpy that this upsets me. Then I think... no, those kids could get killed or kill someone out driving on drugs.
Later in the evening I went back and told the manager what had happened (that's how i know it took the police 2 hours to get there). She didn't seem too concerned about it so now I'm wondering, should I call corporate offices and tell them they need to get some security there or something because the high school kids hang out there every weekend night.
At this moment I am planning to contact Del Taco corporate offices Monday. Am I overreacting?

I would be disappointed if you don't report it. That is part of the problem today. Too many people just sit on the sidelines while a few bad seeds take over the earth it seems....And then every body sits around scratching their heads and wondering how thing got to be so bad, and 'when did all this happen?'

Message: If I had had my cell I would have called right then and there. As I mentioned in my email, my son didn't go on the campout but hubby did and took the cell with him :(
If it were one of my kids in the car, I would hope someone would report it to the police even if it meant I had to make a trip down there and pick them up!
And I don't think DelTaco should just sit back while their parking lot is being used as a hangout spot and "drug" store.

Message: Moi, I would call the corporate headquarters too. I'm sure they would not want this going on in one of their stores. If you only got the license number, you could have given that to the police too.

Message: Moi, I meant to reply to your post yesterday. Thank God for concerned citizens like you. I am not a parent, but, these days all adults have to be vigiliant to product our communities. Kids are exposed to too much crap. I don't think you overreacted at all. You have your children to protect.

Message: You did not overreact--this needs to be reported to the company, and since the local manager did not seem too concerned I think you are right to contact their corporate office.
