Subject: Half moons and nail growth
Message: Hi again everybody,
Quick question, does anyone know anything about the half moons on nails and whether they represent nail growth? I have half moon's on my pointer, middle and thumb on both hands, but on my ringer and pinky fingers, I do not see my half moons. I can remember reading in Seventeen, about 20 years ago, that you are supposed to push your cuticles back with an orange stick until you can see your half moons (I assumed gradually, not all at once! OUCH). Anyway, the article also stated that seeing the half moon meant that your nails are healthy. Is this true?

Message: Hi Joy,
I have never had 1/2 moons on my pinkies and they grow just like the rest of the nails. I don't know what the whole 1/2 moon thingy does, but I can't wait to find out. I know someone here will know!

Message: Hi Joy,
Some people have really obvious moons and some do not. Mine are dim compared to my hubbies.
Don't let that be the issue. Let the pink bed tell you what you need to know.
And NO, NO, NO, NO, NO ORANGESTICK! You be careful about putting things like that to your cuticles. You can damage the cuticle and that can lead to infection. Use your fingertip to push your cuticles back while you rub in the NGF.
And what ever else you may or may not do, never cut those beggers either. OOOOOOOOHHH! That hurts to even consider.

Message: Hi Barbara and Moi,
Nope, I promise, no more cuticle abuse. I was just looking down at my hands as I was rubbing earlier, and was just curious. I won't ever do anything to my cuticles again. I've had so many crazy things happen to me at the salon that now I am just happy to rub, rub, rub. :o)
I am curious to see if Cheryl weighs in on this one.

Message: Hi Joy,
I'm glad you brought this topic up. I've always wondered about it, too, because half my nails have noticeable moons and the other half don't. I'm symmetrical (I don't know if that means anything), so for example, both thumbs have moons but both pinkies don't. I'm glad to hear it has nothing to do with predicting the health of the nail. I guess it must be some genetic thing - yeah, let's blame that DNA!

Message: Jill,
The DNA does in fact have more than just a little to do with our nails. As well as so much else.
Just this morning, while I was brushing my hair, I looked in the mirror and OH MY GOD! My mother was staring back at me!

Message: I was pointed to a website not too long ago that had a disturbing excerpt about 1/2 moons on fingernails. It reads...
"16. Chinese concepts. Dr. Chi reports that 80% of cancer patients lack some of the half-moons on their fingernails, and have teeth-marks (indentations) on the sides of their tongues. Look at the fingernails. There should be half-moons at the base of the thumbnail and the nails of the first three fingers. Not the pinkies. If there are less than 4 half-moons on each hand, this indicates low cellular oxygenation. Enzymes and Vein Lite have been used by some to increase half-moons. "
The website is www.royalrife.com.
The link to this excerpt is http://www.royalrife.com/cancer.html
I do not know the validity of this, but I do not have 1/2 moons on my nails and will be trying Enzymes to see if they appear.

Message: Matt,
Please let us all know if the Enzymes show any difference in you "moons" rising!
