Subject: Nail shortening Question

Message:
I am still haveing a small bit of splitting going on. I am wondering what is a good way to shorten my nails? Besides using a file. If I really need to take them down more. They are growing very quickly right now. I heard that using a nail clipper makes them split. This is what I usually use. Is there a better way. Help please. Thanks

Wendy,
Use the Wonderstone wet file, that is the safest way to file them down.
And you are correct in that clipping causes fractures in the structure. Keep using your formula, once they take hold, your splitting will cease. Are you in an extremely cold environment?

RE: Nail shortening Question

Message:
Good evening ladies, I have taken a few days off from the boards for a bit of a rest. I've been really confused!

Barbara, I am about to start week 4 and I have to tell you my nails look great. I have kept them short, using your file, so that the new growth and healthier nails will be at the base of longer nails. I showed my nails at the beauty salon yesterday, and they were all impressed at how smooth and shiny they are. I'm finally going to have the nails I always wanted. I am in an extremely cold environment, well not yet, anyway, but soon, (upstate New York - Albany area), and the winters are terrible on my nails. I know that NGF will take care of that driness I usually get and if I have to massage it in more than 2x a day I will.

I do have a question though. I read your post the other night about filing my nails straight across on the top. I would love my nails to look like that, but they aren't shaped in a way that the "squared" look is attractive on me. I have rounded them a little, not pointed, just rounded. Is this OK? Thank you Barbara.

Again, if it weren't for Moi and Sheltie, and Barbara and their genuine caring and sweet and helpful manners, I never would have tried this product, and I thank them so much! Moi and Barbara are my new beauty gurus, and I am definitely much better in the skin care and nail care because of you two ladies. You both ROCK!! I really appreciate how very kind and caring you both are! I think you both deserve to know how really helpful you both are and that you really show how much you interest you show in the rest of us here.

Thank you ladies for sharing such a positive site, and all having common goals, beautiful nails, and kindness toward one another!

Bless you poor little lost soul! I only know what makes my product tick and how to make it work for you.
It is not written in stone that the nails be filed with a blunt tip. That will just help to absorbe any shock if your nails hit into things.
Just generally follow the natural curve of your fingertip. That is actually much more attractive to me but I am an absolute clutZ! I constantly bang myself into any and everything that is convenient. Plus my hubby thinks I am just one of the guys, so I am always "helping" with what ever comes down the pike that is his latest project.
Today we removed the built in bed on our airstream and began the process of installing a new built in sofa and next week we will begin working on rebuilding the bedroom of the darn thing! Oh well its my lot in life, and if the truth be told I do enjoy being helpful to him.
Thank your for your kindness! Now just relax with it and begin to enjoy the new jewels we call fingernails.((((LOL))))

karen1225,
i also live in upstate NY, a southern transplant if you will, but over on the western side, just south of buffalo, about 4 miles from lake erie and lake effect snow, soon enough. from now through winter, i find myself using the NGF and my shea butter a lot more often. i can already tell my hands are drying out! sucked enough fallen leaves today to build a 2 story house it seems!! another wind storm tomorrow-wooo-hoooo. ain't nothing like surviving NY state weather!

Cheryl
I'll bet you visit with your mum in the winter time!
Leaf sucking, snow blowing, potatoes, potatoes!
I am dodging pecans falling off of our trees. We have 5 acres of blueberries, and 5 acres of pecan trees. So in the summer, end of June and early July, it's preserving blueberries. In November it's picking up pecans to market. What is that saying about a womans' work is never done.?! I need some sunny beach and warm sparkling sand and gentle rolling waves to refresh my spirit after winter. You guys just need a warm spot to thaw out in! That is a good start!

Cheryl, your weather is more severe than ours, but coming from the south, it must be a real shock. Yeah, those leave keep falling!!! I like the colors, I just don't like them on the ground!

Barbara, I'm with you! A few weeks at the beach would suit me just fine. I'd love about 10 days at Elbow Beach in Bermuda. I know it's not really warm there now, but come May, that's where I want to be. Unfortunately, I won't but I'd still like it.

Thank you, Barbara, for the answer to my shaping question. I always wanted squared off nails, but I can't get them even, and one side always has more white than the other, so I just round them slightly. You are such a help, and thank you for all of your answers!

If you need to warm up and thaw out, you are all welcome to visit me in Southern California! Just pack your sunblock and NGF. Of course, most people prefer their Christmas seasons with pine trees, not palm trees. But you are always invited!

Oh Jill, you lucky woman!!! I never want to see snow, pine trees, or ice in any form except in a glass with liquid over it! Thanks for the invitation. We could all buff and not bite our nails together in the sunshine!!!

RE: Nail shortening Question

Thanks Barbara,
I kind thought using the clippers might be cracking my nails or making them split. But for some reason I kept doing that to get rid of the old more damaged nail and they continue to split. The are growing like crazy with your nail formula. I use the buffing cream and the natural nail formula and they are sooooooo much better, just still have a little chipping going on. I can tell they are much thicker because they are so much whiter on the tips. They used to be translucent. Now I have to stop wearing polish for a while, I do am a polish junky and feel that I cannot live with out it. I have been taking your advise and not using a remover with acetone in it. But still I need to go natural for a while and that is my goal. I think I have been using your products for about 6 weeks and love them. You are wonderful and I need to thank you so much. You are the best.
