 Subject: Growing nails

A few months ago I smashed my thumb in a huge safe at work and blood pooled up undertheath it. I drained the blood and the nail fell of about a month ago. There has been no pain until recently. My nail is almost fully grown and it looks wierd and is very tender. Is that just normal because it is almost fully grown or is it infected. Thanks for all your help.

it's sensitive, i suspect, because it's still healing from the injury. you will probably have to wait for another full nail to grow before the sensitivity gets better. if it were infected you would have known right away, definitely not a month later. an infected nail would have, by now, affected your entire finger and hand, been swollen and have pus and other lovely fluid coming out. give it another month. if it starts hurting, or you can feel your "heartbeat" in it or starts swelling then get thee to a doctor. i believe it just needs a little more time.
