Subject: Easy Removal of Salon Acrylics and Tips
Message: Hi there,
I never had fake nails and never wanted them...but ended up getting them for a wedding I was in and hated it. I let them grow out a bit so they weren't so close to the nail bed and then decided to get rid of them.
I have read many posts and sites where people talk about removing acrylic nails by soaking them and then peeling the tips off when they get close. This really ruins the nail and is not necessary! I bought a tub of the acetone with the brush on the sides of the tub. Using the directions on the tub did not work - I got through half of the nail after several one-two minute soakings and ended up with bumpy acrylic surface. I pulled one tip off thinking it was pretty soft and it ripped the nail - so I stopped and did not proceed with the other nails.
After looking online again I found the perfect directions using the tub I had already bought!
The next evening I did this and it worked!
First, I filled another bowl slightly larger than the tub with water and microwaved it so the water was hot. Then I put the tub of acetone in the water bowl (without letting the water go into the acetone!). This warmed the acetone up.
Second, I put a little lotion on my hands and cuticles so that they were not so irritated by the acetone. Then I soaked my nails with out lifting them out for about 15 minutes - during that last 5 minutes I started rubbing the nails on the bristles. The acrylic AND the tips AND the glue disolve. You DO NOT need to peel those things off. I would rinse my nails after that dry them a bit and dip them again to get the stuff left behind. And I did reheat the water bowl once when I switched hands. Overall, it did take about an hour - but it was worth it.
Third, I gave my hands a nice gentle wash and applied a lotion to my hands and cuticles.
If you did get acrylics at a salon like I did the nail underneath was probably filed down, so my nails are rough, but I'm putting a growth treatment on and a clear polish to keep them looking clean until they grow out.
I hope this helps people who find this web posting - because I read through a lot of posts that don't explain fully how the acetone will disolve everything and that there is no need to peel them off.

Message: Thanks for your input, it is greatly appreciated here. Cheryl talks about the fact that the acetone needed to be warmed in much the same way. And you are right....NEVER RIP OR "PEEL" THOSE BAD BOYS OFF. The whole purpose of using the acetone, is to dissolve the mess. It takes a bit of time but you salvage what ever is remaing of the nails beneath with these methods. Where did you get the "tub of the acetone with the brush on the sides of the tub"? I have never heard anyone mention this before. Thanks for the info.

10/28/2005 15:25:25 | My fingernail is completely gone
Message: I just so happen that I have acrylic on my nails. This past weekend I fell down the steps. When I tried to break my fall my fingernail on my right hand ring finger came off right along with the acrylic. It was painful!! I have been putting Neosporin on my finger so it wouldn't get infected. I would like to know since my fingernail is completely gone, how long does it take to grow back? Thank you in advance for your response.

Message: free stanley,
anywhere from 3 to 4 months. sometimes less, sometimes more. you do understand that your own nails are ruined underneath the acrylics, right? when you're ready to quit the acrylics, come back.

Message: Free Stanley,
Keep the surface clean and continue with the NeoSporin. Keep it loose wrapped during the day to keep it from further trauma and it will recover in time. It hurts to even think about!!!!
Cheryl said it very well, when you're ready to go natural just come on back and we will help you regain your won natural healthy, beautiful nails.
