Subject: Need brand recs for polish
Message: Hi everyone!
I've been using the NGF after removing my silk wraps for 7 days now. My cuticles look better than they have ever looked. My nails are thin and a bit sensitive, but they seem to have grown a bit. :)
I'm going to give my nails 30 days without polish, and then try using it after that. Even years ago when I had gorgeous long nails, I still had to wear a light pink polish...it's just my thing I guess.
I know some polishes are better than others depending on the ingredients. What brands do you recommend? Also what's the best base coat/top coat. Any polishing tips you can give me would be great. I'll be using non-acetone remover of course!

Message: Jen, just don't forget that anything that dries ON the nails dries OUT the nails, so I am not one to "RECOMMEND" polish now. Though I must say that when I used polish on a regular basis, my favorite was Revlon that gave my nails that added little punch! Shame on me! Now when I do occasionally use it, I use the growth formula immediately after the drying of the polish has taken place, and when I remove it with a NON acetone based polish remover, I immediately grab the formula. This way the damaging, drying effects of both the polish and the remover are kept to a bare minimum.

Message: Thanks Barbara.
I ended up getting a Jessica basecoat from Walgreens that is for peeling nails. It's supposed to seal in moisture. I ended up trying it out because my nails were so sensitive because they are so think after the silks and I could barely use my hands.
I used it, my favorite OPI light pink color and Seche Vite top coat. I've had my polish on for 4 days and it is chipping only a little (it usually chips completely after one day) and my nails don't hurt anymore. I am applying the NGF at least twice a day right over the polish and I'm really happy! I am a polish addict and I'm just going to have to experiment with how my nails handle it.
I'm on day 12 of NGF and my nails have definitely grown! I've filed them down once already because I want to keep them short until the damaged nail grows out. And of course, my cuticles look amazing. :) I'll keep you posted!

Message: I think I've had NGF for 2 weeks now and have yet to remove my polish. Nope, it hasn't chipped after all this time. I use the NGF right over top.
I don't use a base coat because they don't work for me, my polish doesn't go on better or last. I use 2 coats of polish on bare nails, followed by a coat of Sally Hansen Super Shine top coat. And I might apply another coat of the Sally after a few days if I think about it.
Favorite polishes are Revlon Sheer Translucide in Sheer Blossom, and OPI Samoan Sand. Both are sheer, natural and very pretty.

Message: Colleen, I think its great that you love your polish, but you really are not getting the fullest benefit of the formula by not alloving it to penetrate the surface of the nails. If that works for you then okay, but just try it on natural nails for a week or two and see the difference.

Message: Barb - I will, as soon as I take the polish off. I just can't remove it when it still looks good. ;-) Plus, like the other poster, I love a sheer wash of color on my nails. I've been wearing polish since the 4th grade!

Message: Barb - My cuticles are already getting in great shape because of NGF. I did take the polish off yesterday and I'm hating it. It's all I can do to keep from polishing my nails but I won't. Polish is like lip gloss to me - I HAVE to have it. ;-)

Message: Colleen,
You are a polish JUNKIE are you!?
It will be okay, I promise. I know sometimes it is so hard to go against the grain, but it is only a temperary condition. If you just GOTTA POLISH, make certain you use the formula as soon as that bad ole polish drys....You must keep the cuticles hydrated. DO NOT USE ACETONE TO REMOVE THAT BAD OLE POLISH! And as soon as you remove the polish rehydrate with the growth formula!
I know it is probabaly painful for you right now, but once those nails take hold you will want to show them off and tell everybody, YES THEY ARE MY NATURAL NAILS.

Message: A bit of a junkie, yes. I just like my sheer polishes, nothing heavy/dark though sometimes I'll sport red polish just to break out of my mold.
Somwhere in my stash of stuff I have a nail buffer. I'll use that to add some shine to my nails. That's my main thing - I like glossy, shiney nails.
I CAN do this! I CAN do this! :-)
