I've read almost all of the topics related to smashed fingernails, along with how you should expect them to turn black and blue(and fall off in most cases). But how long will this process take? Its been 3 weeks since I smashed my finger in the door and it seems like the fingernail hasn't made any progress whatsoever...(the nail has shown no signs of coming off b/c its still hard, just black). And looking at a black nail is really an eye sore to me and I just wanted to know is it possible that the black and blue under the nail is permanent?...or am I just overreacting and need to give it some more time? Along with that, I can see the blood under my nail and its gotten hard, like a scab...can i anticipate this going away?

at this point, the dried blood will just grow out with the nail. same thing happened to my husband a few years ago and it took almost a year for the nail to grow completely out and the "bruise" with it. it's injured, insulted and mad, if that's possible, and it will just take some time. sorry.
