Subject: funny indents in nail
Message: Hello! I smashed my fingernail awhile ago - about 7 months, and it's fully grown out now. the problem is, now it grows out with a line of horizontal dots like morse code across my nail every milimeter or so and now my nail is almost entired covered with rows of tiny indents :( i'm pretty sure this is because of the injury, but i'm very much hoping that there might be something i can do to fix it or help it grow back normally... does anyone have any ideas or suggestions? thank you!

Message: I too have strange indents in a few of my finger nails. They are very small, like someone took an ice pick and indented the nail. They don't hurt, just cause concern. I have searched the internet but find nothing to identify the problem. My indents are 1 to 2 months old. Prior to this I had perfect nails. What's up?? I can not think of anything I did to the indented finger nails to warrent this. Any info, help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Message: I also have funny indents in my fingernails, I was very concerned
because i didnt know what they were.....I went onto ask.com, that
is the ask jeeves website. I got an answer, the condition that we
have is called Koilonychia, it is a deficiency in iron.

Message: You have damaged the matrix. It may never straighten out. I am not trying to discourage you, because there is a small chance that it will go away. Try buffing like some of the other ladies suggested, but please do not buff too much, only lightly, you may cause even more damage.

Message: Diane, not to alarm you in anyway but nails that grow curled could signify certain medical issues. Be sure to discuss it with your doctor. I was having a "yellowing effect" to a few of my nails and I am not a smoker. It was one of the first signs that I have hypothyroidism which I now treat with medication.
Curled nails, (clubbing): Clubbing signifies problems with the heart, liver, colon, or lungs. If this is occurring see your doctor immediately for some tests.

Message: I too have little dents in my nails. I first noticed this after being very ill a few years back. I was deficient of Iron, and quite possibly zinc too so I'm going to try a zinc supplement and see if this makes any difference.

Message: Have bumps on both my thumb nails. Interesting about iron deficency becuase I am a vegetarian but I do take vitamins with iron. Plan to ask my GP about that too (have lines on 2 of my nails)What's interesting to me though is that I used to use Solgar vitamins and then about a year ago I was told by a nutritionist that Centrum was good enough. Now I wonder if I should go back to Solgar.
