Subject: My natural nail is lifting!
Message: I have had my nails on about 1 yr - with out a break. I just got a new set 2 wks ago. The other night my nail felt funny- I looked and my natural nail is lifting from my finger! It is now alittle more than half way up. I do not have any discoloration - or anything. Is this caused from my Acrylic nails?

Message: Have you banged it or anything? I did this and the same thing happened. Whst i would advise you to do is keep your nails short. Until you feel you can soak it off. Keep applying your oil etc. You should return to your salon too.

Message: YES IT IS. your own nails have been thinned out so much from the drilling, filling, filing and sanding-and not just this one but all of them-that there is nothing left to connect to the nail bed underneath. you will probably develop sensitivity then have an allergic reaction to the acrylic and liquid monomer eventually because of this thinning of your own nail bed. acrylics will destroy your nails and the nail bed underneath. some people it happens to sooner, some later and it is painful and an even longer recovery of your nails if your entire nail is pulled away.. it's your choice whether you will lose them or not.

Message: Dolly,
I am sorry but returning to the "scene of the crime" is probably not the best idea!
Liza,
Any insight Cheryl gives you is from first hand experience....If I were you, I would take everything she tells you about this to heart!
Please be very sensible with this and don't throw good money after bad and start the healing process asap.

Message: karen,
just a couple of questions to get some more information. did you see a dermatologist anywhere in those 3 doctors? did any of them do a scraping of your nails or your toenails to determine if it is bacterial or fungal? two totally different kinds of treatments between the two. you can't tell from just looking at an infection which one it is. sometimes fungal infections can even start in the toenail without us even knowing and spread to our finger nails. after 3 weeks you should have seen some improvement, not worse. you may have picked something up from the pedicures or manicures in the form of instruments not being properly sanitized. it happens. this is something a doctor should and can easily diagnose. a fungal infection is not easy to get rid of and a bacterial infection can become painful. both need to be taken care of quickly and 3 weeks without improvement is just not acceptable to me.
