Subject: Half Finger nail
Message: Hi,
I smashed my right ringfinger in the car door about 3 weeks ago. About 80% of the nail were bloody with only healthy part on the left side left. AFter a few days, the blood came out and left a hollow space between the nailbed and the nail. Today, the only place the nail is attached to my finger is on the side and loosely in the root. What should I do with the whole nail? Cut it down to the healthy, attached part or get the nail removed completly. If i cut to the edge on the side of the nail, will the nail grow sideways?
thanks in advance
Chris

Message: My best advise is that you seek professional input for this one. Since I have never personally had this happen to me I have no realtime data. I am not a professional caregiver so any thing I offer is merely opinion...So please seek the help of a professional. It will be worth it in the end.
May be someone will offer insight here. I hope so..
Cheryl, where are you? You are the one with the realtime answers! Help this poor soul!

Message: Chris,
i would probably have the nail removed, only because you say the only healthy part is on the side and the root is loosely attached. if you decide to have a health professional remove it, then just the nail needs to be removed. don't let them do anything that will hurt the matrix, what's under the hard nail bed. that's where your new nail will come from and it needs to stay healthy.
