Hi!
I have a quick question. I heard that if you wear nail polish for too long, your nails will turn yellowish because of lack of oxygen. Is that true? What about wearing top coat only?

it's not from lack of oxygen, the yellow comes from the pigments in the nail polish, the darker the polish the more yellow your nail became ! to prevent it just apply 2 layers of good base coats under your colored polish. using top coat won't make your nails yellow.

I recently polished my nails with a clay color and i had put a base coat plus a top coat and i took off the polish 3 days later and my nails where a bright yellow. Is there any way of getting rid of the yellow color?

Nails don't breathe. They are just like hair, dead cells formed to protect what ever part they are on. Hair protects your head from the "elements" and nails protect your fingers from injury (another good reason not to bite them!)
Usually the yellowing is from polish pigment. The really bad yellowing is from darker colors like the clay color Amanda mentioned and burgandy's and wines and reds, etc.
There is another though...besides smoking... using a cheap base coat that contains the chemical "nitro cellulose" will yellow nails. Choose one wisely. Most "drug store" brands contain this, so you may have to go to a salon and find one.
Amanda, try LIGHTLY buffing the nail to remove the stain. BUT don't over do it because you will make your nails thin by over buffing, and you shouldn't buff a nail more than every 6 weeks or so.

To remove the yellow colour from your nails, you can soak them in denture polish, it really works.

I bought some rather expensive nail hardener from Sally's Beauty Supply and I noticed after reading the message from "Carol in GA" that they contain that nitro cellulose...Is it mainly in Nail Hardening Products then?

I had this dark burgandy nail polish on my nails and had it on for a while. When i removed it my nails were yellow. I was wondering can you put nail polish over yellow stained nails, because they don't look very nice.

putting more polish on will keep them yellow. they need a break. polish pigment is absorbed into the nail. the darker the polish, and the longer you wear it, the yellower the nail.

ive always bittin my nails and use to let them grow and then bite them again part of it was because i use to worry a lot.now im 16 and ive being growing my nails for 3 weeks and they have white tips just put a base coulour on and leave them alone.mostuirise ure hands each night or day.
