Subject: The High Cost of Acrylics
Message: They say a picture is worth a thousand words. So I thought I'd show you gals what my allergic response did. Wish I'd thought of trying this before I cut the paper thin nail off.
Now isn't this lovely? (Highlight / copy & paste and take a look for yourself.)
This is AFTER gently massaging in some vitamin E oil.

No amount of finesse in application and polish is going to hide the fact that something is wrong with this picture - literally. Painful - you betcha!

What you can't see are the tiny bumps on the top - I can't get the focus up close enough. Those bugger's are itchy on top of being sore. This is my reward for 12 faithful years of acrylic nails.

Message: if anyone out here contemplating acrylics or wondering how they are affecting your nails needs a reason to re-think it, then go look at these pictures. incomprehensible how nail techs can say they aren't damaging. makes me even more furious.

Message: Even if there is only an outside chance this could happen, why in the world would anyone consider having the topical treatments applied. Things don't just happen "to other people"...The odds get slimmer as time passes, and at some point you will be the next one with these problems. Why gamble with this?
And for any of those techs that may take offence to this I say, it is indeed offensive,(something that outrages the moral or physical senses)....The fact that you would dare promote this in any way for any reason...You should all be run out of town on a rail if you don't let your client know the possabilities.

Message: I looked at those pictures and I was blown away. It looked like a really bad allergic reaction to the chemicals used in the acrylics. That's why I'm not getting any type of artificial nails. Damage to natural nails is far more costly in the long run, much more pricier than the fakes out there. There are too many risks from wearing the acrylics, including injuries, allergic reactions, and infections. Any nail tech that says that your natural nails won't be damaged after the fakes are taken off is lying.

Message: Unfortunately, it appears I pushed the limit too long ... now even clear nail polish burns as well.
Barbara - the Neosporin has calmed the inflamation.
Thank You Barbara & Cheryl for your suggestions. 2 nights now - 3 fingers no longer look RAW. The worst one from the photo is still open but not as inflamed looking.
I'm betting 2 years ago when I was to the doc it was mostly chemical reaction (all 10 fingers). She thought it was an infection from sawdust at the time.
Now I understand why some states don't allow the general sale to the public. I of course, being 'smarter' (use the term loosely pls) by-passed that through the internet.
Of course there are those who say this is the reason you should leave your nails go bare for a 'period of time'. 6 mo. on and 6 mo. off.
Well, it only took 2 fills to get back to full blown swelling. I had quite for 9 months.
