Subject: Product Use

Message:
Hi, everyone -

First of all, thanks to Barabara for this site and the products.

I had been using the acrylic nails for about 4 months prior to finding this site and decided I would give my natural nails yet another chance. I have had problem, weak, chipping, breaking nails all my life. I have every nail product known to man in my bathroom - none of which delivered as promised. I am very hopeful that these products will work for me.

I bought the nail growth formula about a month ago and have been using it religiously ever since. I think I read somewhere on the site that you should not use the buffing cream until you've been using the Nail Growth Formula for a while.

My nails have grown in to about a third of the nail bed (so 2/3 is still damaged) - my question is: Is it OK to start using the buffing cream yet or should I wait until more of the healthy nail has grown in?

Thanks!

Hi Trish,
If your nails are not sore or tender to the touch, and if they are not still wafer thin and have those awful pits from removing the bonding agents then you should be fine with the buffing cream now.
Use gentle, light strokes to buff out those imperfections. Once you test with very gentle strokes, and the nails don't seem tender you can begin to apply a little more pressure if necessary.
The Buffing Cream has a very fine abrasive, so insure the fact that you just don't over do.
After using the Buffing Cream, you can also buff in the Growth Formula to insure that the surface of the nails are "sealed". This will add a glossy shine and you will probably not ever need to use polishes again, except for those occasions when you want to add that little punch of color to those jewels.
Keep us posted, and if you have further questions, you know where to find us.
How are those cuticles looking?
Thanks,
Barbara

Thanks, Barbara -

Actually, the cuticles are looking great. And my nails are not tender at all.

However, there are some horizontal ridges from where they sanded down the nail. Is this what you mean when you say "those awful pits"?

Also, they are pretty thin as the white part grows out. In fact I have been using the file to keep them pretty short until the bad part is grown out.

So, do you still think it's OK to start the buffing cream?

Trish,
keeping them short is a smart thing to do. they are so thin and damaged right now they need time to recover. i had ridges and pits from the sanding also. buffing smoothed them out and that helped them from catching on stuff. i believe, after a month, you can go ahead and buff. just do it very gently. thinning them even more is definitely not what you want to do. i buffed mine the first week because they were so damaged and ruined from the "roughing up" and subsequent fillings that the nail beds caught everything. i probably wouldn't do it so soon if i had to do it over again. it was a matter of survival at the time. i don't recommend doing it so soon for everyone. just be careful and gentle.

Hi Trish,
The fact that your nails are becoming less sensitive is a good sign...Let that sensitivity be your guide post as to the improved condition of the nails on their path to recovery. Cheryls' information is right on target here. "Gentle" is your mantra when beginning to buff out those flaws. As the sensitivity decreases the pressure you apply to buff out those imperfections can increase in slight degrees of applied pressure.
Keep us all posted as to your progress.
Later,
Barbara

Just wanted to give you guys an update. I have been using the Nail Growth Formula for about 2.5 months now. I have been using the buffing formula for about 4 weeks. The damaged part of my nail is only about 1/4 of the nail bed now. I had been keeping the white part filed down since it was still so weak. However, just this week I have noticed that I don't have to do that anymore, so they are starting to grow out. Ususally at this point my nails would be chipping and splitting, but knock on wood, nothing like that is happening!

Thanks, Barbara!

P.S. Is the effect of the Buffing Cream cumulative as well? I noticed the first 2-3 weeks I used it, my nails didn't seem to be any shinier. This last time they seem a little more so. Am I not buffing it in long enough?

Our buffing cream is designed for smoothing the surface imperfections. To get a shine beyond compare, use the buffer with the Growth Formula. Just buff it in and when you finish, wipe down the buffer with a tissue to remove the excess. The Buffing Cream has basically the same ingredients except the proportions are varied. Plus it has the abrasive agent to help gently buff out the surface of the nails. So use the Buffing cream very sparingly on weak, degraded nails and use the growth formula as often as you wish.
Hope this works as well for you as it does for me. Let me know.
