Subject: Acrylic Nails
Message: I just wanted to reply to the subject of acrylic nails. I had acrylic nails for almost four years. I liked them, and they were pretty, but really got tired of going to get the fill-ins. I decided to take them off. I did this myself (it hurt). When I did this, my natural nails were long, but thin as paper (you could practically see through them). After three months of hell, my nails have finally grown out completely.
The acrylic nails are great, but just know if you get tired of them or whatever and want your own nails back, you're going to have have short, ugly nails for two to three months after removing the acrylics.
Just my two cents. ;)

Message: Pam,
that's the point we try and make here all the time. women and young girls go in and have acrylics put on and then a few months, or years later are tired of the expense and time involved and remove them, not realizing what's left underneath. most nails are very sore and dehydrated after they are removed. that's a lot of "pressure" sitting on top of our nail beds, then we soak them in harsh chemicals and scrape and pry them off. it's a wonder there's anything left. sounds like your own nails were very forgiving. take good care of them and please keep them your own.

Message: I agree 100% that you should not get any more acrylics put on. When my aunt talks to my mom on the phone, she always complains that her fingers hurt and she also talked about her fungal infections that she got from years of wearing fakes. But she still wears acrylic nails even though she's had a lot of problems with them. I'm pretty glad I decided to never do that sort of thing. I'm making the most of what I'm naturally given.

Message: If you are looking for something to help those nails grow stronger and stay healthier, try the Natural Nails Growth Formula. It promotes a more rapid growth pattern and protects the nails while maintaining moisture balance. It will get those cuticles back onto soft supple shape, and it doesn't cost you your first born.

Message: Pam, I agree with everyone here. It's just not worth it.
Jessica, given enough time, your Aunt is going to have much worse problems. I kept it up since 1986.
Last summer I quit for 8 months because I could no longer stand the swollen ITCHING cuticles. They were UGLY and very very DRY. In March I gave in to temptation and had them done in a salon (did my own since '88). Not only did I have the above sypmtoms, but add tiny ITCHY blisters that water and 'fester' when scratched.
Tonight I got smart - I borrowed my brother's credit card and ordered Barbara's stuff. Until it gets here, I'm keeping several coats of clear polish on to protect what is left of my nails.
Take a look at http://www.hooked-on-nails.com/naildisorders.html
If you go down the page to the 14th nail disorder,
Pterygium Inversum Unguis. That was what I started getting the first year I had acrylics. Being a nail biter, I thought it was 'supportive' nail growth! Perhaps your Aunt might be encouraged to quit if she takes a look at the nail problems mentioned.
This page has a very good explanation of process of allergic reactions: http://www.hooked-on-nails.com/overexposure.html
Hope it helps.

Message: Thanks Cheryl - but unfortunately, the School of Hard Knocks, seems to have the Cream Of The Crop in Teachers.
I wonder where I'll one year from now (anxiously awaiting my order)? This first year as time progresses, I'll be thinking "I could have been this far last year if I'd just ordered!" (LOL !@@!)
Time to go use up some of the 'junk' creams on my toes! Have a great day!
