Subject: Ridges across nail
Message: In the period of about a month I have developed horizontal ridges acorss my nail and also shades of white across them. I am wondering if it is some kind of vitamin deficiency. Does this sound familiar to anyone?

Message: Cheryl, yes they are actual dents in the nail and looking where the nail meets the skin you can see and feel the ridges. They have appeared on both thumbs in the last few months. Thanks for any advice.

Message: Kris,
after doing a little research the only horizontal nail condition i could find is a condition called beau's lines. they can be caused by illness, stress, arsenic poisoning(made anybody mad?!),hypothyroidism or just genetics. anything here strike a chord? apparently, ridges can be a result of a lot of stuff, nothing horrible. just ask your doctor next yearly visit, whether it's gyno or regular, they all have to go through medical school. if i come across anything else i'll let you know.

Message: Thanks Cheryl for all your help. As a matter of fact my gyn just gave me a slip that included a thyroid test for other reasons. I didn't connect it with the nails but it's probably not a coincidence that my gyn issues and the nail stuff showed up at the same time. If I find out what's going on I will post to help other people.Again thanks for the info!
