Subject: itching, swelling, HELP!
Message: I am so happy I found this site, it proves that I am not alone. I recently moved and had to find a new salon to have my acrylic nails done. For some reason I have developed an allerigic reaction. At first, I thought it was the heat and climate but after seeing the posts here I realize I am now allergic to the acrylic nails. I just had a fill done yesterday and am having itching and swelling around my cuticles. I have not seen anything in here to help get through this part of the reaction. If you have any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

Message: Sandie,
what do you eventually want to do with them? if you're ready to "quit" them then i can help. but, if you just want to keep doing this then i can tell you that once allergic, always allergic, and keeping them, at least in my opinion, is not an option. soaking them in ice water helps with the swelling, itching and pain. please don't "fall" for another "version" of enhancements from your nail tech. read more posts here. you will learn a lot.

Message: its probably due to over exposure from the product. Your tec was overexposing you by working to wet and getting monomer all over your skin. Dont go back to her as this is very dangerous and you should find a highly skilled tec.

Message: I really don't want to quit. I enjoy having nice nails and I could never get mine to grow. I have purchased the product on this site "Natural Nails Growth Formula" to try to grow my own nails out, I hope it works. I just need to get through this stage of the process, the itching is driving me crazy!

Message: Sandie,
The Natural Nails Growth Formula is not designed to relieve itching or any other allergic reactions. It will promote a more rapid growth pattern and protect the nails from excessive moisture that weaken the structure of the nails, while providing the much needed moisture retention. So the benefits are for the natural nails, not something to make wearing acrylics or any other topical treatmenst more tolerable.

Message: Barbara-
Yes, I understand that your product is for the natural nails. I purchased it figuring that I could not do the acrylics any longer and would need the help to grow my own nails. I was looking for another solution to the itching and swelling.
Thanks

Message: Sandie,
i never found a solution to the itching and swelling, other than ice soaks or possibly taking some OTC benadryl which will help the itching. the symptoms will get better over time until the acrylics come off. that's all i've got. sorry.

Message: Try some benadryl cream to help in addition to the OTC oral medicateion. The OTC Benadryl is great for alergic reactions of almost everything. Great suggestion Cheryl....Thanks I will remember this post to inform others....
Sandie, do let us know how the growth formula works for you....
Regaining your own healthy natural nails is quite a challange in our society of "thank you very much, drive around" instant gradification....So with some time, and patience, your nails will regenerate and become better than you remember.

Message: Thanks for all of your suggestions. I called a local urgent care center and they suggested 1% hydrocortisone creme and otc bendadryl. It is helping the itch subside. Thanks, again.

Message: Sandie - I'm glad you've decided to quit now.
Hope to find a word on your progress since it's been 3 weeks since your posted this.
I just wanted to add that after a while, those topical treatments and oral Benedryl won't help. It can get worse - nearly forgot I was on an anti-biotic a year ago because of infection - probably from scratching so much. This year started getting tiny watery itchy bumps near the knuckle.
I'm excitedly awaiting for my package to arrive. Just ordered Barbara's product tonight!
Barbara - I admire your restraint - I've just been reading some of the posts from 'Anonymous'. Her comments about a good product - Tammy Taylor is supposed to be superior - that's when my problems got worse!
Linda
