Message: Alex,
it's not what they do in 2 weeks to your nails as much as what they do to them when they put them on. your nail beds are roughed up with either a drill or a file to make a "suitable" surface for the tip or acrylic to adhere to. the hard surface of our nails are there for a reason-to protect our nail beds. when that is taken away our nails have no defense. all hope of retaining moisture is gone and moisture is what they need to stay healthy. before the acrylic or tip is applied a dehydrator is brushed on to further strip the nail of any moisture. an acid primer is brushed on after the acrylic mixture has then been applied. your nails are just destroyed underneath before any of this has been done. who knows if you might be the one who has an allergic reaction to the acrylic powder or liquid monomer. when that happens you end up with unbearable itching, swelling, and blisters. it's not something you do for 2 weeks. taking them off with acetone remover is the only way to remove them. basically "melting" them off. you're going to spend $40+ dollars on ruining your nails. you can get a lot of regular manicures for that amount of money. spend the time and money on making your own nails strong and healthy. please don't do this.

Message: Cheryl gave some great advice. I agree that you shouldn't have acrylic nails put on. I really wanted to get them a few months ago, but my mom always said no. I changed my mind about getting acrylics after one of my cousins said that the technicians have to ruin your nail beds before they put them on. My aunt also said that she got a bad fungal infection and lost one of her own nails because of the acrylics. Unfortunately, a few of my aunts and cousins still wear acrylic nails. Now I don't plan to get any type of artificial nails and I'm happy with what I have naturally.

Message: Alex, you are not in troule and you will not be in trouble if you don't put acrylic. You are young, you want attention..
Find manicurist who does a good nail art and make your friends jealous.
www.nogti.com will give you some very good ideas.

Message: Go for it Alex!
They look beautiful, and if you get Solar/Diamond
nails, they are less damaging and last for up to 4
weeks. I'm in my 20s and have had them for quite a
long time. No complaints. After reading this message
board, this is just a place to argue the negatives. In all
the time I've had them it hasn't hurt once.
Above, Cheryl has completely and liberally exaggerated
pretty much the entire animadversion.
There's nothing to worry about if you just check the
nail salon for cleanliness before you even sit down!
Have fun!

Message: Beautiful diction. Clever and convincing. Almost.
I'm afraid I missed the contest remark.
Simply put, I was solely encouraging the use of acrylic
nails, for I feel this forum is intentionally
misrepresenting them.

You're encouraging the use of acrylic nails on a site dedicated to the restoration of NATURAL NAILS, after the damaging results of the fakes.
