Subject: Terrible Toes
Message: OK, with as blessed as I am with great fingernails...toes are another (agonizing) story. I have had my ingrowns removed THREE times by the podiatrist....and they still come back...worse than ever. The other day I barely kicked my boyfriend's heel as we were walking and the nail just shattered. They usually seem really strong, they don't seem to be thick or have ridges, although they are a bit yellow. My doc never mentioned anything about a fungus or other nasty surprise....what is going on? Could having them cut out make them worse?

Message: Rachel,
having the ingrowns removed could be making them thin and weak. when you say "shattered" i take that to mean brittle. toenails, like fingernails, should be flexible, not brittle. my toenails are a bit yellow too, but i tend to wear bright colors on them and my big toes seem to always be yellow. if yours aren't thick, or crumbly then i wouldn't think you had a fungus, but it's an easy test to find out. it seems like you have a good relationship with your podiatrist. for my own clarification, why do you keep needing your ingrown toenails cut out? i had one big toe done years ago and haven't had to do it since. just curious. the natural nails growth formula barbara mentioned, in your previous post, is great at keeping a moisture barrier for fingers AND toes. i don't swim, but my hands are in a lot of water and paint due to maintaining some rental houses i own, especially in the summer. the formula is amazing. it has saved my nails. you can read about it on the home page if you scroll down to the bottom. there is an excellent description of ingredients and how they work without the hassle of polishes, removers and all that other stuff. this is something truly good for your nails.

Message: Thanks so much for your reply, I've had the ingrowns removed 3 times because they keep coming back! It's like the just curl up no matter how much he cuts off. My podiatrist even said that he has never had to repeat the procedure more than once. It's horrible. :( Just spent the week at a trade show in 1.5 inch heels....ahhh, achey toes!

Message: I KNOW!!! :) But at least they were a open toe....I have taken to wearing flip-flops every day. Thank goodness I don't have to go to trade shows but twice a year. I just can't seem to find cute shoes that are fancy enough..that are flat...and flattering. :(

Message: Hello,
May I suggest you try Tea Tree oil to minimize and
eliminate the foot fungus you have. fungus turns
toenails yellow, brown, disfigures their shape and
makes them grow "twisted" . I advise you search online
for info on tea tree oil and foot fungus. I've found tons of
info myself. Tea tree oil is a very effective antiseptic for
controlling and eliminating foot fungus which can take
up to many months to cure.
