Subject: Removal of Gel Nails
Message: I've had gel nails for about 3 weeks now, and I think I'm ready to get them off now.
When I searched this message board on removal of fake nails I only saw posts on Acrylic nails, so just to make sure, I decided to ask about gel ones.
Do you soak gels in acetone to get them off as well?
When you use the term "pure acetone" is that just regular nail polish remover(with acetone)?
And while soaking, am I supposed to rub the gel off in between? or will it just dissolve itself when placed in the acetone?
Thanks for the help ladies ^__^

Message: shoobop,
try soaking in acetone remover. pure acetone, found more in beauty supply stores, will dissolve them quicker, but are also more drying. acetone can be found in drug stores, wal-mart's and such places, but have other additives in them such as emoillients to help alleviate the drying effects of the acetone. i've found the quicker you get them off the better they are in the long run. if the gel disolves in the acetone then your nails are an acrylic mixture. if they are not soft after soaking then they will have to be filed off. you can use an orangewood stick to scrape off the softened acrylic. when you see what a pain-in-the-butt this is to remove and what shape your own nails are in, i hope you will think twice about doing this again, even for such a short time. when you're successful at removing them, then moisturize alot. a cuticle oil or vitamin e oil will help alot.
