Subject: Soft nails
Message: First post, so i apologize if this has been discussed on this forum before.
A little about me. I am 31, was a smoker for the past 5 yrs, nail biter for 30 yrs, and had acrylics on so i wouldnt bite my nails for almost 10 yrs. Last year when i turned 30 i decided that i was going to try to stop biting. I have stopped. So 1 clean year of not biting, no acylics, and okay i smoke when i have a drink in my hand, which isnt that often... LOL.
I am taking vitamins in hopes to strengthen my nails, i have always drank lots of water. Recently i have tried applying Emu Oil on my nailbeds and even have applied henna. Emu is a great moisturizer and has many undocumented medicinal qualities. Henna is used in body art decoration as well as for its antifungal qualities.
What can i do to improve the thickness? They are not paper thin, however they do bend very easily. I really wanna try to be "natural" and not get the acrylics again, especially since i was using them as a deterant for my teeth, LOL.

Message: Amy,
no need to apologize. no one on here minds answering relevant, thought through questions. good for you going on a year! i bit mine for 38+ years. i know how hard the habit is to break. first, a good multi-vitamin is always a good thing to take, but don't take them hoping they will improve your nails. one would have to be so severely defficient in vitamins and minerals for it to affect their nails, that you would be having much worse problems than weak nails. drinking water is a great thing to do for your skin and nails. it's something none of us do enough. our nails have more to do with genetics than anything else. we can improve on what we're handed down by taking better care of our nails, but we have the nails our grandmother and mother had or have, pretty much. almost 10 years is an awful long time to subject your nails to the exposure of acrylics. your nails are going to need some time to heal. if you consider, you went from biting your nails to covering them with acrylic, they really haven't been given much of a chance to just be natural nails. 30 years biting, 10 years of acrylic, and smoking doesn't equal 1 year to have strong, healthy nails. you can have them they just need some more healing time. trying natural products is a great start. flexible isn't a bad thing. in fingernails, it's better to bend then break anyday. i reclaimed my own nails after acrylics and biting with the natural nails growth formula found on this site. it works for myself and others every day. i've been using the formula since last november when my nails were in horrible shape and now they are strong and healthy. i am only a user of this product and really don't work for or get anything for this except to help people get the nails they deserve. i wasted so much money on products and crap over the years and just try to guide folks to what works-and this does. just go to the home page link at the bottom of this page and read about it. information is always a good thing. if you have any questions i can help with just ask away.
