Subject: How to repair dead nail
Message: About six months ago the left half of my middle finger nail turned
white, or opaque and started to lift off the nail bed. A
dermatologist said I must have injured it, but I don't remember
doing so. She cut the dead half off and the nail has continued to
grow out. But more and more of it turned white and now it is
entirely white or opaque. At times the new growth looks normal,
but inevitably the white part effects the new growth and it all turns
white or opaque again. The nail is not well attached, but I keep it
on with a Band-Aid. Any suggestions how I can fix it?

Message: Jake,
i don't believe it was due to injury. i think you would remember that. the fact that when you had it cut off it still continued, should have told the doctor it was an on going condition, like a fungal infection. you shouldn't have a nail detach like that for no reason. keep asking until a doctor gives you the correct answer instead of guessing. a culture of the nail might be in order.
