Subject: damaged cuticle
Message: Last October I was at work with a dangling cuticle bugging me. Studpidly I tore the cuticle off with my teeth. I ignored the soreness for several months--trying different things myself. Finally I took time to see a doctor; he put me on antibiotics. The infection went away, but the cuticle is still missing, one-half of the nail is damaged and some of the skin surrounding the nail is still red, puffy and sore. With no cuticle, debris can get down in there and irritate the area. I next went to a dermatologist, but he says there is nothing to do now but keep a bandaid and lotion on it. Hoping you have more suggestions for me. I'll NEVER ever do that again!!!!! Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you. Sincerly, Cheryl

Message: Cheryl,
nice name! sounds like you are doing all you can. i don't have much of a cuticle on my right third finger, but i don't seem to have any problems with it. i just make sure i keep debris out of it. it does seem to get dirtier quicker than the rest. i think at this point you just need to let it "air out" during the day, and at night loosely wrap a bandaid with neosporin creme around it. sounds like you really did a number on it. the natural nails growth formula, from this site, has some great healing properties when it comes to cuticles. there's some good information, on it, on the home page, linked at the bottom of this page. good luck.

Message: My middle finger and ring finger have developed a soreness due to pressure using a finger tipped bowling ball. That is from squeezing the ball and forcing the nail into the cuticle causing a condition similar to an ingrown nail. Since I constantly clean this hand with alcohol and soap and water I fear that may be part of the problem. Fungus can envade your feet and spread to other parts of your body as the intake of sugar permits according to the specialists. I need fast recovery . . .so do you have a remedy in the form of a anesthetic???

Message: Paul,
any anesthetic i could come up with is just going to make the area numb and cover up the problem. kind of like when NFL players get a shot of lidocaine injected into an ankle or knee so they won't feel the pain playing. quaranteed it will still be there the next morning. you are over cleaning and you are right in assuming that it probably just irritates it even more. i wish i had an answer for you other than removing that part of the nail, or throwing the ball differently. long distance runners deal with this problem all the time, only with toenails. maybe someone else out here has more answers. i just don't know a quick cure.

Message: Sorry guys but it seems that everything Cheryl has to say is so negative about the industry.
Not necessary in this area but in the acrylic and Prescription nail area.
But anyway I do appologies if I stood on any toes.

Message: Chri,
The reason for the negative response toward the industry in general is due to the industry itself. This site, www.fingernailcare.com, is dedicated to helping resolve Natural Nail issues. The questions regarding fake nails must be answered to acquire the knowledge and information to achieve the healthy natural nails most of us seek. The website is dedicated to providing quality products to help achieve those ends. The nail salons that specialize in the fake nails, seem to just ignore the real health problems associated with and made manifest by using the topical treatments even to the point of pouring illegal substances into the legal bottles for presentation and use. So there is a bit of animosity on my part here due to the deliberate deception, and misleading people so their pockets are lined. Though everyone is entitled to their own opinion, there is a place to present those arguments, but here is not that place since my website is strictly for those of us with natural nails, and those of us looking to achieve this end. Thanks for your understanding.

Message: Chri,
i am very negative about the acrylic/enhancement industry for all the reasons barbara stated, plus many of my own from personal experience. i don't have a problem with people wearing them as long as they know what they are getting. here in the US the industry is just wildly out of control. young girls are getting them with absolutely no instructions on them and then come here looking for answers when things go wrong and they don't know why. on the other hand, many consenting, over 18 women are getting them also and repeatedly go back having problems all the while. i realize no one is forcing me to come here everyday and try and give advice, but question after question is about acrylic problems and not about trying to grow healthy nails. in my view, acrylics are not a quick fix and so many women believe they are. i'm certainly not denting anyone's pocketbook by having these views. i'm not that naive. after 35 years of biting, and 3 years of acrylic nightmares, i have strong healthy nails now with the help from barbara's products and my own resolve. i guess i am naive, in that respect, to believe that if i can show it was possible for me to break the cycle and have healthy nails, then it's a possibility for anyone. it becomes frustrating seeing the same questions over and over.

Message: ((it becomes frustrating seeing the same questions over and over.))
It also becomes frustrating to anyone that tries to read this site! Why in the world does the same question have to be asked over and over when all anyone would have to do is just read a few of the posts!? It wouldn't take long at all to find out that this site is about natural nail care and that one of the worst offenders is the use of "fakes", "enhancements", or any other name that the industry labels them with...like “Solar” “LCN” or whatever. In just a moment of reading, one would learn....first of all, not to apply them...what will likely happen if you do....also, how to remove them....what to do when one tears your natural nail off....and how to restore your natural nails now that the "fakes" messed them up....and how long that will take! I come here almost everyday and I am so tired of reading the same old questions and answers about "fakes"...that is not what this board is about, and I am only interested in natural nail care and what works for that. In my opinion, anyone that has seen once what "fakes" have done to your nails should be embarrassed to come here and admit that you reapplied them! How careless, reckless and just plain stupid! If this comment upsets anyone, I have to say, it’s probably because I just gave you something to think about! It is really only a money racket that grew like wildfire, but has definitely decreased to a glowing ember as more and more women realize what is happening to their own nails and that they are actually paying someone to damage them!!SAD! Enhancements aren't real looking anyway, I can spot them instantly 99.9% of the time. God has given you nails for free, why bother spending time and money messing them up? For just a small percentage of the time and money spent on "fakes", you could have your own natural nails without all these crocked up problems! THAT is what this forum is about!!! Period!
I have nothing else to say on this matter and I’m now stepping off of my soapbox!
