I play classical guitar and have found a wonderful fix for splits or tears in broken nails that will hold until the nail grows back in.
As crazy as it may sound, Crazy Glue works great.
I found a great gel called "LOCTITE SUPER GLUE" at a nearby Walgreens. Out of all the super glues this one has the best mix and control when applying. Be sure to have a super fine nail file and be careful not to get it on you skin. By the way, if you do, hand loation works great at removing super glue. Good luck!
