Subject: Acrylic Ripped from nail bed
Message: Hi all- I'm new to this forum but I hope you all can help.
I just got a new set of acrylics put on yesterday-- I like to keep them fairly short.
Today while at the farm I broke one of the nails-- this is new to me!! HELP!
The nail cracked vertically down the nail bed and then off to the side in an "L" like pattern- the acrylic took the real nail with it and my nail-bed bled profusely. Both sides of the nail are still attatched at one point or another (one is attatched very well and the other is hanging by a thread, so to speak.)
I have managed to repair the two halves with 'super glue' by gluing them back together once the bleeding stopped. I did this because, despite the bandaid on the nail, it was still 'catching' on things and snagging painfully. The glue is holding the two halves together and I think it might last for a little while.
My question is-- what else can I do to help this heal? Did I do anything wrong by supergluing the nail? Will I have to wait for the broken portion of the real-nail to re-grow completely before my nailtech can repair the acrylic?
Any suggestions or thoughts? I could use any info you all can offer!!
Thanks,
Kerry

Message: Kerry,
your acrylic should have come off without taking part of your own nail off when you whacked it. makes me suspicious of what they are using in the acrylic mix.
the broken portion of your nail is not going to grow with super glue and acrylic on top of it. the entire acrylic must be removed before anything good can happen. you are depriving your nail from healing by subjecting it to more abuse with the glue and possibly snagging the rest of it and causing more injury. now that there is a "crack" in the acrylic, you stand a good chance of moisture seeping down in between the nail and the acrylic and getting a nasty infection that is trapped in there. that you don't want, believe me. it has to come off if you ever stand a chance of re-growing the nail beneath.
