Subject: "safer" fake nails
Message: My nails have become paper thin from years of silk wraps. I want to stop.
I recently saw an article for a fake nail product that does NOT require abrading the natural nail for application. Unfortunately, I can't find the article.
I would appreciate any ideas to help me transition away from silk wraps.

Message: Linda,
any "coating" whether it's silk, acrylic or gel is just going to make them even thinner, whether they are roughed up or not. please reconsider continuing with anything. it's not going to make them any stronger in the end.

Message: hi, i think it might be the semi permanent nails now available that you are thinking of.
go 30 prescription nails are the ones i have had put on,i am going to be doing a course in them, next week as i a very impressed, and all the nail techs that have tried it are phasing out their acrylics/gels to go over to this methos.
i think they are actually imported here from america,i am in australia.
give them a try.

Message: sorry ladies,i guess i am just an "all or nothing" kind of person. my nails were in deplorable shape under the acrylics and i knew the only way was to start from nothing-and that's what was left-nothing. i don't believe it would have mattered what i had on them-silk, gel, acrylic, whatever else is out there. yeah, they looked really, really bad for a long time, but i knew, eventually, they would be healthy again. if you're trying to stop, then the only way is just to stop. "weaning" yourself off of them is just not something that makes any sense to me.

Message: Just because some of you have not yet experienced problems associated with the topical treatments does not mean they are in fact safe! The truth is, even if there is not a "medical necessity" to cease with the topical treatments, the nails are in fact being, at the very least, damaged...
They are bonding materials to your natural nails in much the same manner that a craftsman would fiberglass a boat.
Why not use your time and if you invest a penny at all, give your nails the benefit of their natural state. Allow them to flourish with out being FAKES!
Please consider the possibilities of the down side of this BEFORE you dive in and begin a never ending process.

Message: Hi Sharon and Linda
There are no "safe" fake nails. If any product is "bonded" to the surface of the natural nails it will damage the fragile structure...If not immediately over time you will regret the move to fakes.
Do a google search for fake nails and supplies, this site is dedicated to Natural Nails and the forum is open discussion on the topic. We do not sell or advertise any products not pertaining to the care and health of Natural Nails.
Just type in your key words for the product you are interested in and google will do the rest.
Best Regards

Message: the only way the acrylic will come off is soaking it in acetone. it's not going to feel great to do it, but it's the only way to get acrylic off.

Message: how do you know your own nails aren't damaged underneath? were your nails roughed up at all before the "prescription nails" were applied? i don't know what those are.
