Subject: Nails for Prom?

Message:
I have never gotten anything done to my nails... except like painting them myself and putting wal-mart glued ones on and i really want to get them nicely done for my prom... Does anyone have any recommendations... and can someone tell me what they actually do to you in a Nail Salon??

Thanks! respond on here or e-mailing me would be better =)

Izzy,
go get a nice french manicure at a beauty shop. please don't get acrylics put on. you will regret it. anybody's nails, as long as there is a little white showing, look nice with a pretty, soft, french manicure. they aren't expensive and the manicurist can shape them for you also.

My daughter is getting married on 6-25 and I have never had anything done to my nails except a manicure once in awhile. I was going to do acrylics, silk or ? Since reading some posts- I have changed my mind so what do you suggest?
Will be wearing a midnight blue gown with open sandals. My nails are fairly strong amd have some length right now- I love gardening and thought the fake nails would protect my nails----thru the summer...

Lil,
please don't get acrylics or anything else. they will destroy what healthy nails you have. what you end up with is peeling, thin nail beds when you remove them. it takes months to get them back in shape, and sometimes they never are quite the same. when acrylics are applied, the nail bed is roughed up, usually by a file or drill, in order for the them to adhere. completely dehydrated, thin, weak, sore nails is what you'll have, and that is the least of what might happen. i didn't even touch on lifting, mold, injury, or infection. go have a manicure every 2 weeks and start getting them in shape for the wedding now. i would go to a beauty shop and not an assembly line nail shop. wearing such a dark dress, i would keep my nails and toes subtle. don't want the dress and the nails competing! there are so many french manicures out there that aren't that "stark pink & white". one in particular is called an "american french manicure", and it looks very natural, yet when all your nails are healthy and pretty much the same length, looks very classy.

Yep, Cheryl has done it again, great advice! I also think you would be better off if you stayed far, far away from any of the "nail enhancements". Sorry to report that although some look really pretty and can make you "drool" for nails like that, what you see is not the truth, because under those enhancements is really a horror story just waiting to be told. Sorry, but that is how I feel, I have experienced it, and seen and heard it way too many times to ever believe anything else. Please listen to Cheryl and get a manicure on your natural nails, the "american manicure" does look nice and clean too. You might also think about choosing one of the clear-white looks like you see on the covers of magazines, I think that is nice looking and often wear it myself. A manicurist would also have great ideas that could help you decide. As far as gardening goes, wear gloves! I garden and do yardwork, and I always wear gloves. I usually put on lotion first or a cuticle creame, then put on my gloves. That way my hands are getting a mini treatment while I work. Some people say they can't work in gloves, and it may take some getting use to, but you can do it for your nails! ;)

Olga,
your answer is found right here. i too, took my acrylics off last november and had the exact same nails as you do right now. i started using the natural nails growth formula, as directed, and it saved my poor, pitiful nails. i actually bought it a few years ago and really didn't start using it until i got the "courage" to remove the acrylics once and for all. go to the home page at the bottom here and read how it works. it's a product that does what it says.

whether you have them on a week or years, they are still roughed up, filed down, thinned out, super-glued, filled and overlayed with acrylic powder and bonder. when you get sick of the crud that collects underneath, the green bacteria that grows and turns what's left of your nails a smelly green, the bruising and lifting from accidentally whacking them trying to open your car door, or the horrible ripping of the acrylic and your own nail flying off with it, when trying on a shirt in a dressing room, they are still going to leave you with destroyed nails when you decide you've had enough. thin, peeling, hurting nails is what you end up with no matter how you look at it.
